With its crackling fires, colourful fireworks and sparklers galore, Bonfire Night is one of the cosiest nights of the year to get wrapped up and head to your local display. Why not make a night of it by enjoying a meal in one of the capital’s most inviting eateries? Here, we’ve rounded up some of the most convenient and snug spots to head to.
Richmond is home to some of the capital’s most popular and family-friendly Bonfire Night events, which take place at Richmond Athletic Ground. The Cricketers is just a handy 10-minute stroll away from here and makes for a snug place to grab a bite to eat before enjoying the show or a place to warm up by the open fire afterwards. This year’s fireworks take place on Sunday 3rd, so you’ll be able to make the most of the legendary roast dinner menu that’s on offer here, which includes indulgent extras like a whole baked camembert!

At The Petersham Hotel in Richmond, you could enjoy the displays from the comfort of its high-end restaurant that offers views across the river. The Sunday menu here is truly exceptional, featuring a smoked salmon trolley, a British cheeseboard and desserts with the wow-factor, such as a knickerbocker glory. From here, you could stroll down to the Athletic Club or find a spot in the sprawling grounds to enjoy the fireworks from a distance, with a glass of something warming in hand.

While fireworks aren’t allowed on Hampstead Heath, this spot makes for incredible views across the rest of the city’s displays. You’ll also find Must Wine Bar just steps from the overground station, so you can book in for a glass of wine before or after witnessing the sky light up — or perhaps even both! It makes a particularly good place for a romantic date. You’ll also find a menu of delectable tapas dishes that all feature recommended pairings so you can make this Bonfire Night a particularly upmarket one indeed!
Wimbledon is a wonderful place to celebrate Bonfire Night, and you’ll find several opportunities to witness fireworks in Wimbledon Park. The event will take place on both Saturday 2nd and Tuesday 5th this year, and each evening will feature two displays, including one earlier one that’s more suitable for families and one that is set to music, as well as a vibrant funfair where you enjoy rides and games. The nearby Light House restaurant is just the spot to dine before or after the shenanigans, and it even offers an early evening three course set menu. You’ll find delightful seasonal dishes that are changed regularly.
Battersea Park holds one of London’s largest bonfire celebrations, and will be hosting live music, fireworks displays, fairground rides, and plenty of food and drink across both evenings of the weekend before the night of the 5th itself. Just a stroll along the river, you’ll find Gazette Battersea, where you can enjoy an elegant French lunch or dinner before heading to the festivities. You’ll find classic French dishes including steak tartare and snails drenched in garlic as well as an array of sweet treats from creme brulee to souffle.
