At The Waterman’s Arms, you’ll enjoy the best of both sides of a Great British staycation. You’ll stay in a cosy boutique room above a pub, which is by the section of the Thames near Canary Wharf, so you can easily explore the enthralling architecture in Greenwich and shop till you drop in some of the area’s many malls. The kitchen offers up comforting, well-made pub grub — breakfast might consist of a classic fry-up, an omelette, or even just some granola, then later you can share some small plates like celeriac and Cashel blue croquettes and fried calamari or dig into a hefty portion of fish and chips, hot pot or The Waterman’s double smash beef burger…

The Frontline Club is a place dedicated to media and journalism and those who are involved in the industry and its history. While some areas of the venue are membership only, the grand ground floor restaurant is open to the public and serves up a range of classic crowd-pleasing bites, such as curries, salads, fish and chips and chicken schnitzel. There are contemporary bedrooms upstairs too, which mean that you can stay in this particularly convenient part of London — just to the north of Hyde Park and only a few minutes walk away from Paddington Station.

The Mandeville Hotel is characterful Marylebone stalwart where rooms are sumptuously and stylishly decorated in jewel tones and bold prints, echoing the city’s flamboyant fashion history. Happily, you’ll also find the Reform Social and Grill onsite, a proudly British all-day dining venue inspired by traditional gentlemen’s clubs. There’s a very reasonably priced express lunch menu, which features delights such as Orkney scallops, New Zealand lamb shanks and a selection of steaks served with steak cut chips — a true hidden gem.
