The Royal Albert Dock
cuisinesBars, International

The infamous Royal Albert Dock has over 25 bars, restaurants and cafes to choose from. You’ll find that we have spoken about many of the fantastic bars, restaurants and bakeries that can be found on The Royal Albert Dock including PanAm, Revs De Cuba and Lunyalita.

Outside of its ‘royal’ title, Dave Roscoe showed King Charles III around the docks and introduced him to the local attractions and small businesses around the Grade I listed site. The then Prince reopened the regenerated Dock in May 1988 with the opening of Tate Liverpool, following a full restoration. Royal status was granted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in April 2018. If you’re new to Liverpool or you are a resident, this is an ever-changing cultural food hub!

Royal Institution Bar
cuisinesCocktails, Bar

One of Liverpool’s oldest buildings, the Royal Institution opened in 1814 as an organisation promoting literature, science and art. Steeped in history, the Royal Institution is a beautiful, grand building that has now opened as a classic cocktail bar housing three themed rooms: The Reading Room, The Habitat Room, and The Exhibition Room where guests can enjoy expertly made cocktails from the talented team, wines from all over the globe and a classic pint, poured perfectly.

A cosy four-roomed local pub where conversation and the appreciation of real ale rules. This is the perfect place to spend a relaxing Sunday, chatting away to the lovely locals. There is a tenuous link to the Royal Family and soon-to-be King Charles, who, when he was the Prince, met with Dave Roscoe here in 2019 who is the chair of The Royal Albert Dock. Now a free house, the Roscoe Head is the only pub in the North of England (and one of only five pubs in the UK) to appear in every edition of the Camra Good Beer Guide since it was first published in 1974!

There are six hand pumps featuring Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Tetley’s Cask Bitter, plus four changing guest beers from small regional breweries and independent brewers, so you can get a taste and feel for the real Liverpool.

Did you know that King Charles III is part German? His father had predominantly German ancestors and spoke fluent German. So, in honour of the new King and his heritage, why not pay a cultural visit to Germany without leaving Liverpool?

Book a table for food in the Albert’s Schenke Cook Haus or, if you’d rather just drink, get a table in the Bier Tavern. The Bavarian haunt offers a menu of Alpine classics such as schnitzel and sausage alongside Swiss cheese burgers and Black Forest ham, egg and chips. Meanwhile, the drinks selection revolves mainly around bier, with local craft bevs, as well as those from Munich, Bohemia and further afield, making up the selection of over 20 on tap. We definitely recommend this place if you like to try something new.
