Mother’s Day is celebrated on 10th March in the UK and Ireland this year, but it originated from an American woman whose mother had organised women’s groups to promote friendship and health on 12th May, 1907. 116 years later, it’s time to celebrate the special woman in your life. Want to know the best places to celebrate Mother’s Day in Liverpool? Look no further. But remember, Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year, so make sure you book your spot to avoid disappointment!
Located on Falkner Street, near the Anglican Cathedral, The Quarter is a family-run and family-owned business, and has been since 2003, making it the perfect location to take your mum and family on Mother’s Day. A vibrant restaurant and café, it has a great atmosphere and fantastic quality food. Set amongst the cobbled streets of Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter, it’s a beautiful setting for a crisp day, after a morning exploring Liverpool’s iconic cathedrals or an evening meal before heading to Everyman Theatre. The menu consists of pizza, pasta, a grill section and salads, so there is something to suit everyone.
If you want to take your mother somewhere special, look no further than Woolton Village in South Liverpool. That’s where you’ll find lovely independent shops, bars, cafes and most importantly… restaurants! Bavette Steakhouse is the perfect location if your mum is a steak lover! Here you can choose from a wide range of meats and steaks, including smaller options such as a fillet or the Bavette flank. There are also T-Bones if you’re going all out!
For the ultimate girlie afternoon tea experience, you should take your mum to Oh Me Oh My where you will be spoiled for choice with delicious treats including scones, finger sandwiches and a piping pot of tea. Booking is essential, so make sure you reserve your table ASAP! To booze up your afternoon tea (it is Mother’s Day after all), you should opt for Oh Me Oh My’s Champagne Afternoon Tea, which will get you in the mood for a night on the town!
The Italian Club Fish is a staple of Bold Street. Launching after the success of its sister restaurant, The Italian Club, this is a relaxed and authentic restaurant with fantastic food. As a Fish Cafe, many of the ingredients are subject to availability and all of the dishes are prepared from fresh, so it may take a little longer for your mains but will be worth the wait! So why not indulge in a selection of delicious starters or work your way through the wine menu? This is the ideal spot if you’re looking for a special meal to celebrate Mother’s Day but would like a healthier option. The food is light, healthy and tasty!
The Kassap Meat House is located in the heart of Liverpool’s vibrant Bold Street, which is the perfect location if you and your mum are planning on doing some shopping! It offers a mouthwatering range of prime fine steaks, as well as a selection of other dishes including chicken, fish and vegetarian options, and a tapas menu for a light bite. The quality of the food is fantastic and there’s a lovely bar you can sit at if you want to sip a cocktail and watch the hustle and bustle of the street.

If you’re looking for a special Mother’s Day treat, look no further than The Art School. This restaurant is a melting pot for hearty, rich flavours and the finest produce in Liverpool. It’s an intimate venue that has been welcoming diners and afternoon tea-ers for 10 years. You can opt for an elegant fine dining experience or for afternoon tea in some of Liverpool’s oldest underground cellars. On offer as well is a tasting menu on weeknights and Saturday afternoons for that extra something special. The Art School has a limited capacity so make sure you book in advance.
Albert’s Schenke brightens up the corner of Hanover Street, with its inviting lighting and open fire pit. This is a lovely location to sit and enjoy a glass or a bottle of wine with your mum. It’s warm and inviting with plenty of seating to sit and watch the world go by. Book a table for food in the Cook Haus or, if you’d rather just drink, get a table in the Bier Tavern. The Bavarian haunt offers a menu of Alpine classics such as schnitzel and sausage alongside Swiss cheeseburgers and Black Forest ham, egg and chips; we think this menu is perfect for warming you up after a cold afternoon walking or shopping around Liverpool One.
Queen by name and queen by nature – we think this is the perfect location to celebrate the queen in your life! This beautiful little bistro is nestled down the secretive Queens Arcade. The decor is minimalist with rustic chairs and tables, and classic French artwork on the walls offering a truly authentic, Parisian cafe experience. The main menu is served Monday to Friday 12pm to 9pm and Saturday 2pm to 9.30pm, so we highly recommend going to Queens after a long Friday to sit and enjoy a glass (or two) of wine and enjoy meals such as whole roast plaice with sea herb sauce or glazed pork belly with apple and fennel, dill emulsion and jus. If that doesn’t scream decadence, we don’t know what will!
This swanky, contemporary and downright delicious restaurant is one of our favourites. It also has an extensive menu inspired by traditional Chinese cuisine, as well as fresh Thai dishes complimented by delicacies from Japan, Korea and further beyond. The cocktail menu is also full of the restaurant’s own special creations; we highly recommend the Bruce Lee, which is Chamber 36’s most iconic cocktail.
You’ll find this vibrant French restaurant in the heart of Liverpool’s Cavern Quarter near the world famous Mathew Street, which is ideal if you want to take your mother out for something special and then party the night away. With ‘plats de resistance’ on the menu, you would expect the prices to be far more expensive, however we’re always pleasantly surprised by the price and quality. Our favourite meals included the Steak Au Poivre for £24 and the Poulet A La Comtoise, which is oven-baked chicken supreme with a cheese and leek sauce. If you have a sweet tooth then the dessert board changes daily, so you’ll have to book your table and see the delicious, freshly made desserts for yourself. And of course, the wine is first class!
