Late Night Eats In The Capital

One of Wellington’s most iconic spots is Midnight Espresso, the longstanding café has been satisfying coffee cravings and filling stomachs for over 40 years. Midnight Espresso is dedicated to feeding the night owls and the early birds; its menu offers comfort food in its most delicious form. Dine upon a late-night menu of pumpkin curry, burgers, pasta and nachos; the latter veggie or vegan with bean mix, cheese, sour cream, avocado, salsa, olives and jalapeños. We love visiting Midnight Espresso when the sun goes down; the home away from home vibe is the ideal ambience for casual and cosy evenings out. Midnight Espresso opens from 7.30am – 1am every day.

Dragonfly is a delectable Asian eatery that focuses on the cuisine and experiences from all around Asia; you will find unforgettable flavours from Honk Kong, China, Vietnam, Japan, Korea and so much more. The menu is designed to share, which makes this the perfect spot for late-night get-togethers with friends. The edamame hummus, Massaman spring rolls and Taiwanese popcorn chicken are great for grazing and whetting your appetite. Progress to the dumplings and meat section for bigger dishes like the red duck curry, pork and chive dumplings and Wakanui beef short ribs with sweet soy, black vinegar and chilli. Dragonfly opens from 5pm – 12am, Monday through to Saturday.

Tommy Millions is a pizza extraordinaire with glorious 18” pizzas that can serve 2-3 people, or opt for a cheeky slice of your favourite flavour. On the menu is the original mozzarella, pepperoni, porker and Alfie; the latter pairs alfredo sauce with mozzarella, bacon, mushrooms and hot honey. With an array of specials, half and half pizzas, and catering options, every member of your team will be happy. Tommy Millions opens from 11am – 10:30pm, Sunday through Thursday; on the weekends it closes at 12:30am.

A tried and true Wellington favourite is K C Café and Takeaway, serving Chinese cuisine that explodes with flavour. The generous portions and heart-warming dishes are a sure way to win us over. Whether we dine in or take our food home and get cosy, there is nowhere we would rather satisfy our late-night cravings than K C Café. The menu consists of countless swoon-worthy options like deep-fried wontons, BBQ pork buns, Sichuan chicken stir fry or Shanghai-style fried noodles with BBQ pork and bok choy. Wash dinner down with a Honk Kong-style milk tea or a Chinese tea. K C Café is open all week long from 11am – 11:30pm.

What more could you want than a cosy café with a welcoming ambience and stellar service? Enigma is a comfortable spot for the weary Wellingtonians in need of a homely meal and cup of caffeinated goodness. Enigma has all of our favourite dishes on the menu from juicy sirloin steaks, spicy nachos, homemade gnocchi and B.L.A.T.B. The latter is a bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, brie and aioli extravaganza, all-loving layered upon toasted ciabatta bread. Enigma is open all week from 7:30am (8am on Sundays) until midnight; the weekend goes later and closes at 2am.
