After a month of over indulging during the Christmas period, January is a popular time for people to balance things out by looking after themselves. To help you keep going, we’ve compiled a guide of Ireland’s top places where you can still go out and not be tempted. From alcohol-free beer to non-alcoholic cocktails and plenty of good food, here’s to you – cheers!

This is a seafood restaurant situated in Killybegs (the biggest fishing port in Ireland) in the very beautiful North West of Co. Donegal. The Anderson Boathouse offers a large choice of fish caught by local fisherman and it works with the finest products from the local area. The courtyard overlooks  the harbour of Killybegs where you can see boats leaving the marina, while the menu has plenty to offer, from monk and prawn to start with and black sole for main course. There’s also Hereford sirloin steak for the non-fish eaters and chicken dishes to suit everybody. Desserts are homemade; we recommend either the creme caramel or the popular tiramisu.

Lock 13 Brewpub
cuisinesPub, Brewery

The team at Lock 13 Brewpub sources locally, using the best produce available to them, so that the quality of the product does the talking. The ethos is matching food from the land with a drink made from the land. It has its own micro brewery onsite, where you can see the tanks from where the beers are made – something not replicated anywhere in Ireland. Lock 13 also has a secret… “Thirteen” is a hidden gem, a speakeasy cocktail bar exuding Prohibition-era charm. With an Art Deco-inspired ambiance, it offers meticulously crafted cocktails (and mocktails), ranging from classics to innovative local libations, inviting guests to escape into a world of craft cocktails and timeless elegance.

The taproom at Táin is within the same building of its brewery with ample seating both indoors and outdoors. Indoors your experience is built around the wood-fired pizza oven and bar, connected directly to the brewery, so you can’t get fresher than that! The outdoor area can cater for up to 100 people fully covered, while at the same time enjoying the back drop to a 14th century corn mill and passing stream. This has regularly proven to be an ideal location for couples looking for a romantic meal, as well as families and large group bookings.

West is a modern take on a classic – a contemporary riff on a San Fran-style club restaurant. Expect beautifully lit spaces, with cosy booths and smooth dark wood. West is a proper restaurant, a grown-up room and a reminder of why some things in life are too good to change. The sommelier’s wine list is justifiably famous – winning The Best Wine List in Ireland and World Wine Spectator awards of excellence over and over again. It boasts non-alcoholic wines too, including a Muscat from Torres, Spain, a Syrah (also from Torres) and a Chardonay from Pierre Zero that’s superb.
