Pair your late night antics with one of these Sydney restaurants
The best things in life happen at night…and the hours that seem suspended between real life and another world entirely are the best times to chow down on good food. While most of the city shutters up at hours people would regularly refer to as “decent”, we’ve found a list of the best haunts open late into the night. Grab your drinking buddies and hit these spots up for a good post-karaoke feed before you call it a night!
Korean food for midnight blues? That’s a hard yes from us. Chinatown’s sparkly 2 am gem, Arisun’s sprawling alfresco terrace makes for the perfect place to grab crispy Korean fried chicken coated in flavourful spicy sauce (they even do a salted egg yolk flavour here!) and an ice-cold Korean beer.
Carby delights here include the famous black bean noodles that grace the screens of K-drama fans, and hot pots with rice cakes, cheese, pork ribs and ramen that’ll soothe the soul.
If you’re after a hearty feed that works just as well for one as it does for tons, this atmospheric joint is just the place for you.
Wondering what to order at Arisun? Dish Cult recommends the Korean Fried Chicken (could there be any other??)
Big Poppa’s is the award-winning late-night restaurant of your dreams. Set on the main strip of Oxford Street where all things are lively and bright, you’ll get modern Italian dishes in a cosy candlelit booth here – all the way till 3 am.
Big dishes and big flavour, the team at Big Poppa’s is after hip hop beats and menu offerings that keep things interesting.
Tucker down with the likes of lamb shoulder ragu with hand-cut pappardelle, and Kipfler potatoes served with whipped ricotta and spiced salt. If you’re a fan of cheese, say no more and peruse their selection of over 30 different cheeses.
Wondering whnat to order at Big Poppa’s? Dish Cult recommends the $32 Hand-cut pappardelle with lamb shoulder ragu – we’ll always love Big Poppa’s!
Open till 2 am daily, this casual eatery is where you swing by when you’re hankering for a classic Hong Kong-esque feed, starting with Peking duck and pipis in XO sauce.
Tuck into a steaming hot plate of stir-fried rice noodle with king prawns and egg to chase away the rush of a long day, and revel in the traditional 70’s style decor that’s straight out of a Hong Kong drama set. The menu options here are endless, and you can cop soups, rice, and crispy-skinned barbeque meats all in one.
The perfect place for chow and a chat, grab your friends and head here as an ending round, they’ll thank you for it.
Wondering what to order at Old Town Hong Kong Cuisine? Dish Cult recommends the sumptuous $22.80 Wanton Noodles in Soup with Roasted BBQ Pork.
Open till 1 am, there’s no joint Paddington night-owls love more than Indian Home Diner: a fuss and frill-free spot serving up tandoori bread, curries, and their famous Indian kebab.
The kebabs are hefty and come wrapped in plain or garlic naan, with your choice of meat (think boneless chicken tikka) and aloo chop or onion bhaji. Yep, we’re definitely drooling.
Get a serve of butter chicken to share with your friends, and a heaping of naan bread to sop it all up. We think we might even stay out late on purpose to grab a midnight bite here.
What should you order at the Indian Home Diner? Dish Cult recommends the $12.50 Classic Indian Kebab.
Chinese-Australian classics are the mainstay here, and you’ll find sweet-and-sour pork, congee, fried rice, and hearty noodles for the taking.
There’s no late-night Chinese fare like Eaton’s, and some tout it as a rival to Golden Century in terms of portion and value. The vibe here is chaotic good, with energy that spills over right up till 2 am.
Chefs stir fry and deep fry as waiters bustle about taking orders and carrying platters, and the crowd hums happily as content diners do.
What should you order at Eaton? Dish Cult recommends the every popular Sweet & Sour Pork.
