American restaurants in Glasgow

Glasgow may be some distance from the States, but that doesn’t mean the Scots can’t enjoy some of America’s culinary highlights. From sticky buffalo wings, and unctuous mac ‘n’ cheese, to up-market New York cocktails and steak houses – the options are endless. It is notable that Hollywood crews are increasingly choosing to shoot in Glasgow, surely a testament to the fact that this city shares more with the USA than meets the eye!

The Butchershop Bar & Grill
cuisinesSteak, Vegetarian Friendly
Cut steak with sides on a table

This Manhattan-inspired steak restaurant is loved by locals and tourists alike. With its exposed brick walls, dim-lighting, and uber cool soundtrack, it’s no wonder that The Butchershop Bar and Grill is almost always fully booked. Bag your table early (particularly if you’re looking to sample their Sunday roast) and rest easy in the knowledge that you’ll be treated to some seriously good nosh. Veggies fear not – there’s a killer Sumac Dusted Cauliflower Steak and various side dishes, like the comforting mac n’ cheese, that are bound to please all palettes. All the dishes are good value for money, and the staff are exceptionally attentive.

If you’re a Charles Bukowski fan (American poet, novelist, and short story writer), then you’ll love Chinaski’s. Celebrating all things Bukowski – quotes scribed on the walls and all – this bar is sophisticated and sleek. The menu boasts seasonal ingredients and each dish has an American twist. Try the ‘Ham on Rye’, a loaded sandwich with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Bavarian bakehouse ham, or their well-loved Mac ‘n Cheese, complete with ‘onion two-ways’ and plenty of black salt. For an under-stated taste of American cuisine, Chinaski’s is the place to be.

Bread Meats Bread

Trio if burgers on display

After a hearty diner-style dinner or lunch? Bread Meats Bread is the perfect solution. Think buttermilk fried chicken burgers, grilled cheese, hot-dogs, poutine, tater tots, and more – all served in a lively but laidback environment. You might be tempted by the Classic Grilled Cheese, served on their artisan brioche bread, or indeed the Oklahoma Onion Burger, topped with American cheese, gochujang mayo, pickles, and crushed chillies. For a slightly lighter affair, opt for their vegan Soyul Burger or vegan ‘This Isn’t Reuben’ sandwich, served on homemade ryebread. Wash it all down with ice-cream loaded milkshake (vegan option available) and thank us later!

Porter & Rye
cuisinesSmall Plates, Steak, Fine Dining

Porter & Rye is arguably Glasgow’s most stylish destination to sample American cuisine. This New York-inspired eatery has a real focus on carefully sourced ingredients and seasonal produce. All the beef cuts are meticulously selected by a local butcher using sustainable farming methods and are dry-aged in-house. The food here isn’t for the faint-hearted: side dishes include Bone Marrow Mac n’ Cheese with Smoked Pancetta Crumb, Truffle Buttered Wild Mushrooms, and Triple-Cooked Beef-Dripping Chips. Portion sizes are generous, service is slick, and the atmosphere is refined. For a seriously fancy taste of what the States has to offer, look no further.
