Need a good excuse to escape to wine country? If sampling wine and epicurean delights by firelight sounds like your perfect getaway this winter, the Hunter Valley Wine and Food Festival is your ticket…
Australia’s oldest wine region is hosting an enticing program of wine and food events across the valley this June. Rug up, pack your suitcase and make an entire weekend of it!
Every day until the end of the month, some of the finest Hunter Valley wineries are hosting special events in the area, from port and cheese pairing sessions at Tintilla Estate Wines to afternoon wine tastings at Talits Estate.
Tulloch Wines are hosting a daily Tour of Italy experience, offering guests a stunning selection of Italian varietals matched with Italian-inspired antipasto. But if you like your wines with a side of art, then be sure to book tickets to Winmark’s Chardonnay, Art and Antipasto special package.
You’ll begin at the Winmark Coffee Cart for a fresh barista-made brew, hop onto a golf buggy to enjoy a curated tour of Winmark’s Art Gallery and Sculpture Park, then finish the day at the Cellar Door, where a selection of premium Chardonnays will be waiting for you to taste. Plus, you get a cold bottle of 2019 Rusty’s Run and a sumptuous antipasto grazing box for two.
Standout weekly events in the program include Scarborough Wine Co’s Let’s Get Sensory wine and cheese tasting challenge, a wine and food pairing masterclass and degustation menu (featuring the iconic Bluegrass collection from Sadler’s Creek), plus Hungerford Hill’s award-winning Epic Tasting Experience. There’s still several weeks left on the program, so if any of these events tickle your fancy, visit the website now to book a spot!
True gourmands won’t want to skip the seven-course Ocean to Paddock gastronomic journey, hosted by Ridegeview Wines on Saturday 18th June.
Once your belly gets full, there’s still plenty to discover at the festival beyond food and wine tastings. Why not test out your wine knowledge alongside fellow winos at the Hunter Valley wine quiz night, shop for bargains at the Margan Barrel Hall Sale, or let your inner child get messy at the Hunter Culinary Association food fight?
On the last weekend of the festival, Glandore will be hosting its famous Burning of the Barrel on Saturday 25th of June. As one of the top 50 wine events in the world according to Gourmet Wine Magazine, this is not one to be missed.
Set in the heart of the picturesque Hunter Valley, the event promises food, drinks, music, fireworks, live music, an epic bonfire – and the burning barrels, of course! Bring a picnic blanket and your best people for a night to remember. (Be warned – this event is a festival favourite so book tickets now before they run out.)
