Can’t say no to a cocktail? Here’s a timely opportunity to say yes - and feel great about it!

It’s Australian Cocktail Month, which means over the next couple of weeks you can get discounted cocktails at 145 bars across Australia, support our local bar heroes and add some fancy new drinks to your cocktail inventory.

If there’s anything we all need after the last couple of years, it’s a stiff drink. But perhaps no one deserves that drink more than the hospo warriors mixing it behind the bar.

That’s why there’s one 31-day event you need to pencil into your diary right away. It’s called Australian Cocktail Month, and it’s just as fun as it sounds.

Until the end of May, select venues across Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Canberra, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hobart, Newcastle, Wollongong and Perth will offer a special menu of exclusive cocktails, available at discounted prices for your imbibing pleasure.

The new drinks have been crafted to celebrate the imagination and skill behind the scenes at some of Australia’s most iconic bars. And we’re so ready for it.

After years of braving the post-pandemic storm, there’s nothing to lift the spirits like… well, spirits. So if you, too, would like to support our bar scene this month – and have a show-stopping drink while you’re at it, Australian Cocktail Month makes it easy.

Simply check out which venues are participating in your city here, hit the town with a few mates and get sipping on the cocktails that tickle your fancy!

Tickets cost $20 (plus a booking fee) and will grant you access to an exclusive menu for the whole month. It’s your golden ticket to the very best Australia’s cocktail scene has to offer – and the perfect opportunity to revisit your city’s favourite haunts after a quiet couple of years.

Remember to show your ticket to the bartender and each exclusive drink will only set you back $14, with low and no alcohol options priced at just $10.

You’ll get the chance to taste both local and international spirits, as well as a range of special twists on signature cocktail classics.

In Sydney alone, participating venues include Burrow, Frank Mac’s, The Conservatory Bar, The Duke of Clarence, Moya’s Juniper Lounge, and a wide range of other established and newer bars.

Jolene’s, a Nashville-inspired cocktail, whiskey and live music bar, is a great place to start. In 2021, award-winning Simon Rose-Hopkins (former bar manager of Nola Smokehouse & Bar) craved a bit of warm Nashville-style hospitality in Sydney’s CBD, and subsequently opened this tribute to country music.

During Australian Cocktail Month at Jolene’s you can taste the Nashville Smashville featuring Buffalo Trace Bourbon or a Texan Mule featuring Tito’s classic vodka recipe and Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, plus two other exclusive drinks.

Another great bar for Sydney-dwelling ticket-holders to visit this month is Dish Cult favourite, The Swinging Cat.

Owned by Peter Fischer (who also backed Jolene’s last year), the East Coast venture is slinging three new enchanting elixirs this May: Mandaloma, Garden Gimlet and Fleur de Lyres.

Our pick is the Mandaloma, the bar’s take on a traditional Paloma using mandarin puree, Patron Anejo, soda and fragrant rosemary.
