Inspired by the classical poetry work of Charles Bukowski, Chinaskis was born – a compact, candle-lit bar celebrating the life, work, and impact left by the late poet. Curated, well-made cocktails, thoughtful plates, and a divine atmosphere, Chinaskis is for those who enjoy the finer things in life, and those manifesting them.
Chinaskis celebrates the life and art of American poet Charles Bukowski, famous for his influential social, cultural, and economic work inspired by Los Angeles. The cosy space imitates an intimate ambience, with candle-lit tables, encouraging deep conversation and laughs shared over tasty plates.
The beer garden and terrace following the cosy indoor space are filled with sun and picnic tables, making the perfect hosting spaces for a couple of cocktails or beers during the warmer months. The sun-soaked courtyard and cosy indoor dining make Chinaskis perfect for both summer and winter, all year round.
The cherry on top of Chinaksi’s ultra-cool vibe is their love for music ringing through the restaurant. A fixture of the venue, you’re guaranteed a good time with both underground and beloved tunes playing at all times of the day and well into the evening, leaving no chance of an awkward silence.
Chinaskis is not just a pretty face – the venue is almost infamous amongst locals and out-of-towners for their extraordinary menu. Divided into plates, classics, burgers, pizzas, sides, and desserts, as well as an entire vegan-dedicated section, you’re unbelievably likely to find the perfect dish to take your fancy.
Burrata with figs, prosciutto and balsamic, buttermilk fried chicken, beef carpaccio, pistachio mortadella, honey whipped feta and flatbread, crispy pork belly bao, and gateau piment all grace the starters section, acting as the perfect introduction into the heavier side of things.
If there’s one thing Chinaskis is known for, it’s their burgers. Served on a seeded brioche bun with skinny fries, you’re looking at five epic flavours of burgers. The self-titled Chinaskis burger lays out two smash patties with edam and relish for an unbeatable classic cheeseburger. Otherwise, opt for something a little different like the Korean BBQ chicken burger with gojuchang and pickled cabbage, the Sobrasada and beef burger, or buttermilk fried chicken burger with red hot chillies and green chilli mayo.
If you prefer your main in pizza form, the hand-stretched bases will be right up your alley. Add on a side of hand-cut chips or macaroni and cheese (both with the option to come truffled) and you have a bang up meal on your hands.
Chinaskis cocktail list is extensive to say the least. An entire page of bespoke creations, with classics, and others that steer away from any old bar menu. Of course, you can’t go wrong with their classic margarita or espresso martini, but if you really want to branch out – Chinaskis will certainly take care of you.
They serve up margaritas three ways that diverge from the classic cocktail. The kiwi margarita combines kiwi, raspberry, lime and celery salt. The Spicy marg sees the addition of triple sec, taijin, and chilli for some heat. And Tommy’s margarita is a concoction of tapatio blanco with agave and lime.
Other standouts include the Rain or Shine, Corpse Riviver No.2, Flophouse, and the Watermelon Daiquiri. One thing’s for certain, you’ll never grow tired of Chinaskis’ cocktail list.
For style, grace, and a touch of culture, Chinaskis is your guaranteed perfect night out. For a well-overdue catch-up with old friends, to sparking a flame with new ones, Chinaskis provides the perfect ecosystem to grow and nurture your relationships over great food and tremendous drinks. Make your first visit a grand evening, and then return time and time again to laze about the sunny beer garden or devour a burger and beer for some quick and easy comfort.
