Could Flank be Liverpool's best new steakhouse?
Looking for a new steak spot in Merseyside? Why not head over the water and treat yourself to a night out at Flank Steakhouse and Bar.
New Brighton has always been known for its seaside scenery, the funfair and fish and chip shops on every corner. However, in recent years, there has been an increase in impressive eateries that have attracted a different crowd. This includes the ever-popular street food hotspot Marine Street Social and the new-kid-on-the-block Flank Steakhouse, which are both owned by the same people, so it’s no wonder Flank is a hit!
Steak in the suburbs
Flank is a bar and grill-style restaurant, known for its tender steak and quirky cocktails. The sophisticated eatery first opened its doors in December 2021, premiering its long-awaited Christmas menu, which, of course, was a hit with the locals.
Carl Johnson, one half of the Flank partnership, was inspired to open Flank after noticing New Brighton’s transformation. After living and working in London for years, he decided to move back and bring an element of the city into the Wirral suburbs.
Flank’s Chef Chau, who grew up in Hong Kong and Washington, has also injected some international influences into the menu. He also works closely with local butchers and growers to produce the freshest food for Flank customers.
To share or not to share a steak platter
The current menu has several standout dishes, like the cauli-with-a-kick curry cauliflower with gochujang and sesame. Flank also offers a top-quality but affordable steak selection that you can try alone, or you could tackle a Butcher’s Board sharing platter, which comes with three different steaks, hand-cut chips, seasonal greens, garlic butter AND not one but two sauces of your choice.
At Flank, you’re spoilt for choice with the impressive menu and the flavoursome specials, which are always changing. However, if you do like something, let your server know, as popular specials typically make a regular reappearance at Flank if the customer’s shout about them.
Don’t fret vegans and veggies, as there are plenty of meat-free alternatives, including the impressive Beyond burger with vegan white cheddar, along with the flavourful aged Gran Reserva risotto.
Room for dessert?
Even if you are struggling to move after a few starters and a sharing platter, you should definitely make room for a Flank dessert. The gluten-free sticky toffee pudding is a winner, as it comes with a side of everyone’s favourite – salted caramel ice cream – plus a smothering of caramel sauce. If you want to try another dessert, but don’t want to pass out, make sure your friend or partner orders the lovely light lemon cheesecake and saves you a slice.
Head to Flank’s cocktail lab
What if you just fancy a drink? That’s no problem, as Flank also has a beautiful cocktail spa with private booths where cocktail connoisseurs can relax and try everything on the menu. This could include a classic rendition, followed by one of Flank’s creations. If you are a self-confessed coffee lover and chocoholic, then why not try The Bitter Truth cocktails – the perfect alcoholic dessert.
The expert mixologists can also conjure up a Flanks Lab concoction, such as a Bon Bon Bath Bomb (don’t worry, it is edible), or if you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll love the Peanut Butter Jelly Thyme creation.
Since Flank received over 800 bookings before the doors were officially open, you should definitely make a reservation before you head down. If you fancy a cocktail or two, then there’s no need to book, just show up in your best attire and drink up!
