I stopped by on a rainy Saturday night, which was fairly quiet. It’s located on busy East Street, surrounded by other bars and restaurants. The ambience was very chilled, with classical piano music in the background and we were ready to dive in!
The interiors are clean, simple and effective with mood lighting and colourful walls. We were greeted kindly by the waitress who showed us to our table by the window. The walls were covered in their produce, which customers can buy.
To start off with, we ordered a bottle of the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc (£19) which was fresh and light. They offer a wide variety of wine and cocktails including everyone’s favourite aperol spritz. We ordered a portion of the large green olives to go with the wine, which were served on ice – a lovely touch!
My dining partner and I went to Italy over summer together and both fell in love with Arancini, small balls of deep fried rice. We were both really happy to see this on the menu and it didn’t disappoint. Their Arancine (£5.90) was served on a fragrant asparagus puree and filled with mushrooms. Just how we remembered it, fresh from Italy.
We also shared the Bruschetta (£5.90), a slight twist on the classic tomato and basil with added smashed avocado and caramelised onion. The size was perfect and I liked it being served on smaller, more crusty bread. The perfect starter to an Italian feast.
For mains, we wanted to sample the 2 best things from Italy- pizza and pasta. I went for the Sfiziosa pizza (£13.90), a sourdough pizza topped with parma ham, rocket, tomatoes and mozzarella cheese. I’ve tried a lot of sourdough pizza but this was up there with the best-plenty of topping with the soft crust we all like.
We also tried the Paccheri (£13.90), short tubed pasta filled with ricotta and in a rich tomato sauce. We did mention that the portion size was fairly small but the richness from the sauce made up for it and we were left more than satisfied. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and I really enjoyed this meal (especially mopping up the sauce with the pizza crusts!). One thing to note is that they offer a good selection of vegan and vegetarian options as well!
