Tearooms in Dublin
A brew, a cuppa, cha, whatever you like to call it, there’s no doubt that tea is among the most popular beverages across Ireland and the UK. It’s the go-to move in the office or when family and friends pop over. With that said, this Dish Cult guide presents some of the best tearooms around Dublin City. Whether it’s high tea in luxurious settings or a casual brew in an alternative tearoom, our guide on Dublin’s tearooms has you covered.
Kicking us off is the 4-star Castleknock Hotel, which is home to an 18-hole golf course and a full leisure centre. The afternoon tea is the perfect way to round off a day on the course or wind down after exploring the nature-filled grounds of Castleknock.
The afternoon tea comes in at €35 per person during the week and €39 on weekends, where sweet and savoury treats compliment a stunning tea in the Dublin sunshine. The savoury offerings consist of a delicate chicken fillet in basil aioli on sourdough croute, or you could sample some local seafood with the smoked salmon served on soda bread with a watercress salad.
Castleknock Hotel offers a huge variety in teas, with Assam tea and Green Angel organic tea being some of the highlights. Following a scone, you’ll be offered some sweet treats to round off the afternoon tea. We’d recommend the raspberry chocolate cheesecake dome, it’s a brilliant expression of baking and will be a favourite among cake lovers. If you’re looking for something light, you’ll be in awe of the selection of colourful macaroons.
You can add on a glass of prosecco for €10, or if you’re feeling adventurous, Castleknock Hotel has teamed up with Hendrick’s Gin to present five delicious gin-tea cocktails served in Hendrick’s China cups, for an afternoon tea like no other!
From Dublin’s outskirts to the historic Grafton Street, The Westbury is home to a lavish afternoon tea, with a hugely authentic feel to it. Gaze over the hustle of Dublin City as you sit back on the outdoor terrace and enjoy The Westbury’s finest offerings.
You can start off with some miniature handmade desserts. Our favourite is the blood orange and chocolate crunch bar. It’s almost a Mediterranean take on Terry’s chocolate orange and its delightful during the summer months. An honourable mention goes to the salted caramel and banana crémeux on vanilla sablé, it’s a brilliant example of the craft that goes into the desserts at The Westbury.
Following on, choose from some of the gourmet sandwiches on offer. The cured ham and Irish cheddar with honey mustard is a brilliant take on the classic ham and cheese sandwich combination. The Westbury also hosts an excellent organic egg and chive sandwich on granary bread.
The Westbury’s afternoon tea is an exceptional experience at €60 per person, or if you’re out with that special someone, you can up it to the Champagne experience with a glass of Piper-Heidsieck for €78.
Parlour at Haddington House arguably hosts one of the most scenic spaces in Dublin to enjoy a cup of tea. The tradition of the Haddington House tearooms dates back over 100 years, and Parlour provides a modern twist on Dun Laoghaire’s ever-present tearoom. You can enjoy your tea while overlooking Dublin bay, with views stretching down to Sandycove Beach and as far wide as the Poolbeg Towers, you can watch ferries and ships cruise in and out of Dublin port.
Parlour offers a three-course tea experience, kicking things off with five bite-size savoury snacks, changing seasonally. Follow that up with one of Parlour’s handmade shortbread scones, which are a brilliant compliment to the homemade jam and clotted cream. Accompanying the homemade scones is a remarkable selection of wonderful loose leaf Ronnefeldt tea in the very finest bone China.
Rounding off this fabulous experience, you’ll be offered a selection of desserts: rhubarb and grapefruit cheesecake, macaron, or dark chocolate and miso tartlet. Served on weekends from 12:30 – 4pm, Parlour’s tea starts at €50 per person, and comes with a complimentary glass of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne.
Rounding off this list is one of Dublin’s best tearooms for the explorers and walkers out there. Killiney Hill is home to one of Dublin’s most incredible walking spots with views over all of Dublin City and as far down as Wicklow.
On the foot of Killiney Hill, you’ll find the tearooms which host a great variety of seasonal soups, mouthwatering toasties, and artisan sandwiches. All of the ingredients are sourced from local bakeries in the surrounding area, with the BLT on Cavistons homemade brown bread.
The Killiney Hill Tearooms offer a brilliant selection of cakes and treats too, with a notable mention going to the gluten free carrot cake – ideal for a post-walk snack. The tearooms are stocked with the full range of Pukka teas, as well as Watermark coffee for those of you looking for something stronger. During the summer months, the tearooms serve iced tea and coffee for cooling off in the Dublin sun. We’d recommend the Killiney Hill Tearooms for the dog-walkers about, as it’s completely dog-friendly and your furry little friend will be offered some water and a couple of treats on arrival!
