Where to find Dublin's best crepes
Ireland’s love affair with pancakes or crepes runs as far back as the 15th century, wherein the nation began celebrating ‘pancake Tuesday’ as a religious day of celebration. Centuries on, pancakes and crepes have become one of the most popular brunch foods in the country. Dublin is home to many pancake houses and breakfast spots, and we at Dish Cult want to showcase the best crepes in the capital.
Since 2014, Póg has been one of Dublin’s hotspots for signature, healthy crepes with delicious flavour. With four locations in Tara street, Malahide, Howth, and Bachelor’s Walk, you’re never too far from crepes heaven. The Tara St branch opens from 10-3pm and has a contemporary interior design. This allows for a gourmet experience, but with their stacks starting at €11, it’s not an experience that will dent your wallet. Póg allows you to build your own protein pancakes, too. With sauce options including white or milk chocolate, Kinder Bueno, or Greek yoghurt, you can pig out at Póg or go for a healthy option for a post-gym meal. We’d recommend trying their white chocolate drops over Kinder Bueno sauce, with a premium topping of almond butter for an extra €2.50. Póg is also vegan and gluten friendly, so just about anyone can enjoy it. For the ultimate Póg experience, we’d suggest hopping on the DART to Howth. You can enjoy the scenes of Howth Harbour over an A-grade stack!
Since 1999, Lemon Crepe has been serving some of the most versatile crepes, right in the heart of Dublin City. Much of their ingredients are organic and fair trade too, so you know you’re in good hands. You have two broad options when chowing down on some Lemon Crepe crepes: sweet or savoury style. Among the sweet crepes is the ‘Apple Cinnamon Cream’ featuring an apple and sultana mix, with cinnamon butter drizzled over. If you’re chasing a big breakfast before a shopping day in Dublin City, their ‘big breakfast crepe’ features eggs, sausages, bacon, and cheddar for only €8.20. If you’re going down a healthy route, Lemon Crepe has a range of ‘Power crepes’ with spinach featuring throughout.
Right on the banks of the canal in Dublin, Southbank defines itself as “your friendly neighbourhood café” and for good reason too. Among their delicious full Irish breakfasts, avocado and poached eggs, and homemade mixed berry scones, Southbank is home to two of the best stacks in Dublin. Add bacon for another €3, and you’ve got the ultimate homemade pancakes for less than €15! Next up is their blueberry pancakes, with seasonal berries, whipped maple butter and maple syrup. Their pancakes are only served on the weekend brunch menu, however you can pair this with a beautiful banana milkshake. At brunch time, you might be tempted by their silky eggs florentine, or even their sweet potato fritters with tobacco onion compote — but it’s their crepes that truly stand out. Topped with white chocolate, toasted nuts, and berries, they’re well-balanced and satisfying. What’s not to like?
Lark Cafe is a family (and dog!) friendly cafe that offers up simple, but super fresh and flavourful, plates of food. The coffee here is exceptional, and so too are the homemade baked goods (not least their nostalgic Rice Krispie square bars!). Their brunch menu is equally excellent, and there’s something to suit all taste buds. Their crepes are beautifully made — delicate and light, they’re topped simply with Nutella and strawberries. There’s a great value for money menu for kids, and plenty on offer for vegans and veggies too.
For a crepe experience with a unique twist, Ananda is the perfect choice! This Asian-fusion restaurant stands out for serving some of the city’s best dosas, South Indian fermented crepes made from rice batter and black lentils. Our top pick is a dosa filled with Irish venison, wild moss masala rub, pickled gooseberries, and curry leaf chimichurri—truly unlike any crepe you’ve tasted before! The restaurant exudes an air of sophistication, mirroring the smart presentation of its delectable and inventive dishes.
