Whether you love them or hate them, pickles have infiltrated the food scene over the past few years – much to our delight.
In fact, they’ve stirred up so much talk that they now have a week-long dedicated celebration, with dozens of eateries up and down the country joining in on the fun.
Cook & Nelson’s Pickle Week officially kicked off on 13th November, with your chance to enjoy limited-edition menu items up until Friday 19th November.
Auckland is being treated to pickle creations from the likes of Best Ugly Bagel, Peach’s Hot Chicken, Bird On A Wire, Brother’s Beer, Dedwood Deli, Hero Sandwich Bar, Jo Bros, Lowbrow, Whitestone Cheese Bar, and Winner Winner.
Some of our standout favourites include Best Ugly’s Pickolas Cage Bagel with McClure’s Pickles, Zany Zeus Cream Cheese, Tasty Cheese, Fresh Chopped Dill and Onion Soup Mix, Dedwood Deli’s New York Reuben with slow-cooked silverside, Swiss cheese, McClure’s pickles, sauerkraut, Dedwood sauce, and Peach’s Crispy fried McClure’s Pickles with ranch dressing.
With just one week to get your hands on special menu items, it’s time to get planning exactly how you’re going to tackle trying as many venues as possible before Friday. The full list of participating Auckland restaurants is here, as well as the spots you can find across the rest of Aotearoa, for those outside of Tāmaki Makaurau.
Notable favourites outside of Auckand are the winners of the NZ Great Toastie Takeover 2021 – Hungry Hobos’ “Bat out of Hell” toasted sandwich featuring homemade meatloaf (made to Grandma’s recipe), creamy mashed potato, gravy, aged cheddar and McClure’s Sweet & Spicy pickles slathered between herb-buttered ciabatta – and the People’s Choice Winner 2021, Toastie Picton’s Pete from Picton with Marlborough salmon, cream cheese with lemon, dill and capers, McClure’s pickles and parmesan garnish.
Cook and Nelson’s Pickle Week is taking place right now, until November 19th so get amongst the fun and find your favourite limited-time dish, no matter where you are in the country!
