Where to find the best burgers in Bristol

If you’re a burger connoisseur you can probably tell what makes a good patty. And if you’ve lived in Bristol long enough, you probably also realise that there’s more to the dining experience than high-quality food. With so many different venues and brands, choosing the right one is both tricky and time-consuming. Luckily, this guide will introduce you to places where the atmosphere and service match a carefully crafted menu.

Turtle Bay
cuisinesCaribbean
Turtle Bay interior

Inspired by Caribbean street food with a hint of relaxing beach atmosphere, Turtle Bay isn’t just a venue, it’s a way to transform your weekends into something unforgettable. If you struggle with a routine, or worse, you feel like you never get to have a break, you might have just found a solution to your problems. In Bristol, food is an art as much as music and Turtle Bay combines both in a laid back interior. As for the menu… whoever thinks gluttony is a sin has obviously never tried a good burger and this restaurant knows how to make them irresistible. Take the Hot Chicken Burger, for example. The chicken is deliciously crispy with a delicate coconut flavour enhanced by hot sauce. If it’s not the closest thing to heaven, then we don’t know what is. Bring a group of friends and wash it all down with a good cocktail – they know how to do them well too.

Quay Street Diner

Burger on board with sweet potato fries

Quay Street Diner is the definition of what dining should be – relaxing and satisfying. If you’re looking for a place where you can chill after a long day of work, head to the diner and choose one of the tables at the front. From there, you can either admire the art on the walls or watch the people passing by as you’re bracing yourself for one of the best burgers you might have eaten in your life; the menu won’t disappoint you. You can find a good selection of hand-shaped burgers such as ‘Smokestack’ with beef, pork carnitas, salad and special sauce or ‘All American’ with beef, bacon, cheese and salad. If you go there on a weekday, you can enjoy a deal that gets you a burger, fries, slaw and a pint of Budvar for just £15. And don’t get us started on Taco Tuesdays! The place gets busy so don’t forget to book a table.

The Greenbank Pub
cuisinesBritish, Pub
Pizza with burger in background
Greenbank is an award-winning pub located in the Easton area, known for organising social activities such as life drawing and open mic events. The venue is a true community hub with a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can find something for themselves. When the weather’s nice you can soak up some sun in the beer garden and when it gets chilly, you can relax inside with friendly chatter in the background. Then there’s what we really came for – the menu consisting of comfort food including a variety of pizzas and, of course, burgers. The options are limited but are all unique and worth trying. Greenbank Beef Burger comes with gherkin, tomato and baby gem, then there’s Buttermilk Chicken Burger with garlic aioli, and Teriyaki Fried Mushroom Burger with Fennel slaw, cucumber, spring onion, baby gem and garlic mayonnaise. You can also make it gluten-free and add as much cheese as you like for a small fee.

If you have something to celebrate but want to keep it lowkey, TGI Fridays is just the right venue to get your party started. With a friendly and upbeat vibe, and all kinds of comfort food to enjoy, it never disappoints. First, you can sit back in comfy booths and have a cocktail or two (make the best out of the 2-for-1 daily offer). Then flick through the menu and decide on one of the tasty burgers – there’s no right or wrong choice here. However, we think that the highlight is currently the Messy Cheese Burger. Just like the name suggests, it comes with lots of melted cheese with an addition of a bed of lettuce, tomato, red onions, dill pickle and the venue’s special mayo. If you want to spice it up a bit, go for the Frank’s RedHot Grilled Chicken with Cajun spiced chicken fillet, Monterey Jack cheese, blue cheese slaw, tomato, red onions and dill pickle, plus a boneless skewer on top. Yum.

Fresh, healthy and exciting might not be the words that come to your mind when you think of burgers but this is what you can expect when you dine at Bambalan. You can taste vibrant Mediterranean-inspired small plates here as well as delicious burgers (think double cheeseburger, Buttermilk Fried Chicken burger and Beyond Meat burger with vegan cheese, all served with house fries). There are many options to choose from, whether you just go for comfort food or want to mix it up a bit and have some healthier dishes too (we recommend the chickpea salad). There’s also a seasonal cocktail menu, draught beers, wines and much more to keep you company while you’re waiting for your order. And the best part? The venue boasts a rooftop terrace with stunning city views and DJ every weekend (if you’re after a party atmosphere). Head there for good vibes and watch the sunset with a glass of wine.
