A local institution, Michael Deane has created a number of standout restaurants across the city each with their own unique style and countless accolades between them. Boasting a Michelin star, Deanes at Queens is located in Belfast’s vibrant University Quarter and features a glorious terrace, unique surroundings and delicious dishes packed with local flavour.
Although operating a number of restaurants across the city, Deanes at Queens is undeniably one of the favourites with locals.
This iconic restaurant, bar and grill prides itself on consistently serving up dishes packed with flavour that utilise local produce and suppliers. A stand out piece of the restaurant is its Mibrasa Grill, which brings a new dimension to the variety of plates and is unlike anything else on offer in the city.
The carefully curated menu at Deanes at Queens and award-winning preparation certainly gives the appearance of fine dining, however this restaurant is committed to keeping its menu affordable. Described as “good food at affordable prices” by the world renowned Michelin BIB Gourmand, guests can enjoy continental inspired dishes without breaking the bank.
A trip to this iconic venue couldn’t be complete however without ordering from the special charcoal oven menu, which takes advantage of the Mibrasa Grill. Prepared on a piping hot grill, guests can enjoy lamb rump, whole sea bass or a selection of cuts of quality steak. Each item is served along with triple cooked chips, grilled tomato and a choice of sauce – the perfect accompaniments for any meal.
If the grill doesn’t entice you, Deanes also has a wide array of other items with something to meet everyone’s tastes. Some classic stand out dishes include the roast prawns or breaded fish cake, as well as the crispy pork belly and pasta dishes.
Open Wednesday through Sunday, visitors can stop in for lunch, dinner or even a drink and snack on the terrace. But, in the spirit of keeping things affordable, Deanes at Queens offers a Prix Fixe menu, allowing guests to enjoy three delicious courses for only £26. Although this is a reduced menu, the dishes on offer are still to the same quality and standard as others on the main menu. To start, visitors have the choice of parmesan risotto and wild mushroom linguine before moving onto either breaded plaice with potato pureé or roast chicken with all the traditional trimmings. To finish, Deanes offers both an option for those with a sweet or savoury tooth, with a wild honey panna cotta or a moreish cheese board.
What’s better to compliment a number of exquisitely prepared plates than with a carefully curated selection of wines.
Deanes at Queens operates a fully licensed bar with a variety of beers, mixed drinks and spirits on offer. However, if you’re visiting for either dinner, lunch or a quick snack, it’s difficult to resist this venue’s exciting wine menu.
The South Belfast eatery offers a thorough two page wine list that has a range of red, white, Champagne, sparkling and rosé varieties from all across the world. As well as this, Deanes at Queens serves a mix of organic and mineral wines ensuring there is a glass to perfectly compliment any dish and meet everyone’s taste.
If the food, drinks and price isn’t enough to tempt you, the atmosphere definitely will. One of the the standout qualities of Deanes at Queens is its large heated terrace that has spectacular views over Belfast’s iconic Methodist College, Botanic Gardens and Ulster Museum.
The vibes don’t stop inside however, with guests met by an elegant and chic dining space which is sure to excite. Perfectly described as a “contemporary bustling brasserie”, visitors can enjoy refined modern dishes full of flavour, in a relaxed and comfortable setting.
