Sustainable restaurants in Bristol

Sustainability is a constant priority within the Bristol food scene, which is one of the many reasons why we love the epic city here at Dish Cult. Sustainable doesn’t always have to mean plant-based, which is why we’re also highlighting venues who rely heavily on seeking local producers and farmers for their supplies. If you’re looking to expand your ethically focused, sustainable dinner out options this Earth Day, then look no further.

The Greenbank holds a strong sense of community, found in the heart of Easton. The multi award-winning pub is a unique and welcoming spot, happy to cater to all their locals as well as passers-through, serving up banging Sunday roasts and contemporary pub-grub in their sunny courtyard and cosy interior. Their menu is as locally sourced as much as possible, with their meat being ethically farmed, as well as plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans to get behind.

Twice named Sustainable Restaurant of the Year, Poco Tapas take their sustainability mission very seriously. Serving up brunches, salads, and coffee during the day, before transforming into a tapas bar in the evening, the menu focuses on sustainability, using produce from our smallest and most exceptional local farmers and artisans. Their sustainability manifesto includes sourcing suppliers who follow Slow Food values, 100% seasonal produce, almost 100% of their waste is composted and recycled, ordering products with little to no packaging, using LED lights and drawing power from renewable energy, and recording plate waste to keep in mind for future seasonal recipes.

With a weekly changing menu, this intimate bistro featuring organic wines is a delightful independent eatery. Boasting a lunch “Menu da Jour” paired with a glass of natural wine, Wilsons is a lovely afternoon spot for the bank holiday. Producing ingredients from veg to edible flowers from its own garden only 20 miles away, Wilsons really is a sustainably focused venue that’s unmissable any time of year.

We’ve already done an epic deep dive into Root and everything the team stands for, but we couldn’t miss off this epic Wapping Wharf venue from our sustainable feature. With options to dine outside on the terrace overlooking Bristol’s Harbourside, or warm and toasty inside, everyone can be happy here. Having previously interviewed Rob Howell a couple months back, we know that all produce used at Root is locally sourced and the menu is seasonal. With a heavy emphasis on no waste, the team uses everything to its maximum capacity, which we love.

Found in the heart of Bristol, The Strawberry Thief is a contemporary bar and restaurant serving up European fare, with a modern Bristol twist. Working with small local suppliers where possible, as well as altering their menu to suit the seasonal produce available, The Strawberry Thief feels a strong passion towards keeping it local. You’ll find their cheeses and dairy, fruit and veg, fish, and meat used on the menu all come from nearby growers and suppliers. It doesn’t get any better than that!
