Small Street Espresso
cuisinesCoffee Shop

Centrally located in Bristol’s beautiful Old City, Small Street Espresso is a go-to for locals and visitors alike and is ideal for tucking yourself away with a good book or a friend. This little café’s homely feel is made all the more enticing due to the selection of mouth-watering cakes and bread – all made locally and all delicious! The house roast at Small Street Espresso is by Clifton Coffee, with local guest roasters on rotation for those who want to try something a little different.

Also located in the Old City, Full Court Press are as honest and wholesome a café as they come – just a visit to their website will tell you this is a business that truly cares about its customers and is constantly striving to be as inclusive and ethical as possible. They have an in-house coffee roastery, with their beans available to buy online and in store, and the coffee on offer in their lovely café is ever changing in order to showcase the full spectrum of flavour afforded by this magical bean.

On Whiteladies Road in the gorgeous suburb of Clifton can be found the OddShop, with an interior so bright it will lift your spirits before you’ve even stepped inside. This sunny disposition permeates the shop and is evident in the friendly, knowledgeable staff who are always happy to help and will even offer advice for the indecisive among us. Oddshop uses locally roasted Odd Kin Coffee, with beans also available to buy from the café.

In the up-and-coming area of Wapping Wharf, Mokoko serves up delicious sweet treats from their on-site bakery alongside wonderful focaccias and sandwiches. Their almond croissants have become legendary among locals, and we’ve never had a coffee from them that has been anything short of fantastic! With plenty of outdoor seating, grab yourself a snack and your preferred form of caffeine before settling in for a bit of people watching.

Along Bristol’s bustling Harbourside, Society Café occupies a generous, pared-back space perfectly suited for unwinding, or, if the weather is fine, sit outside and take in the city’s unique atmosphere. Serving up a wide range of sweet baked goods, smoothies, teas and unfalteringly tasty coffee, we can always count on the lovely team at society to lift our mood and satiate our sugar and caffeine cravings.

We have yet to visit one of Spicer + Cole’s four locations around Bristol (Finzels Reach, Queen Square, Clifton Village, Gloucester Road) without our mouths watering from the moment we step over the threshold! No matter what time of day you visit, you will always be greeted with an enticing selection of seasonal, freshly made sweet and savoury dishes from salads to slices of cake. All their cafes are bright, welcoming spaces, ideal for catching up with friends or simply giving your feet a rest, while the artisan coffee will give you just the boost you need to get on with your day.

Bocabar want you to feel as though you’ve walked into a fairy-lit food and drink lounge heaven! The gorgeous redbrick warehouse is filled with vintage tassel lamps, comfy sofas, local art and interesting artefacts for sale, to complement the creative Paintworks-site spirit. At the heart of Bocabar is the ten-metre long bar displaying a selection of local drinks including that much needed coffee fix. You’ll find your hot drink favourite as well as iced varieties for warmer days.

The Loaf bakery isn’t hard to find as it’s situated in a popular area near the Bristol Beacon but if you’re looking for a quiet afternoon with a hot cup of coffee it might not be the first place you think of. However, don’t let the busy location discourage you from visiting; everything from the airy, plant-filled interior to the friendly staff contributes to the place’s serene, welcoming ambience.

The scent of freshly baked pastries will instantly put you in a good mood and the passion the team has for coffee will be obvious as soon as you order a hot drink. The venue has partnered with Oddkin Roasters which means it showcases the finest coffees you can get in Bristol. Whether you prefer batch brew or manual pour over, Single Origin Espressos or decaffeinated coffee, you’ll find something that strikes your fancy and makes you come back for more.

When we think about our best coffee experience, one of the places that comes to our mind is Chew Kitchen located in the Chew Stoke area. The venue doesn’t specialise in that heavenly beverage but when it comes to coffee it’s not only about the quality of the brew but also about the place in which you drink it.
Chew Kitchen is the ideal breakfast spot where you can relax before starting a day at work or do some work on your laptop while enjoying delicious breakfast options (think toasted tea cake, sourdough bread and classic English breakfast). Then there’s the delicious coffee you can sip on: Americano, Latte, Flat White, Macchiato, Cappuccino, Espresso and Mocha. The atmosphere is homely and lively which makes it the perfect spot for a solo meal or a catch-up with a friend over your favourite coffee. Definitely worth a drive even if you don’t live nearby.

For some, drinking coffee is a solitary activity, almost like a form of meditation. For others, it’s something best enjoyed with good company. If you belong to the second category, you’ll like the idea of meeting up with a group of friends at a place like Chance & Counters. The venue is a vibrant café dedicated to board games with many regulars who love the lively atmosphere.
However, if you’re not into playing games there’s no pressure to take part; in this relaxed hangout spot everyone will find their purpose, whether it’s having pre-drinks over a board game or a quiet meal. As for coffee, you can order one of the classics, from milky Cappuccino to strong-flavoured Espresso (there’s a decaffeinated and iced coffee option available). The hot drink can also be paired with delicious homemade desserts: warm brownie bites, sticky toffee pudding and a cheesecake.
