After opening a mega popular pop-up shop in the heights of lockdown near the shores of Leith, Bundits of Leith has found a permanent home for all your bao bun needs. This is a bun fight you won’t want to miss out on.

Bao buns have taken the nation by storm, with frantic foodies lining Instagram with shots of the multicoloured, cloud-like doughy buns, piled high with tasty ingredients and unique flavours. Bundits of Leith is no exception to the trend.
Born from a team that previously ran fine-dining restaurants such as Otro and The Atelier, and the same team behind the amazing New Chapter in Canonmills, Bundits is a more relaxed affair, without scrimping on taste, quality and excitement.

Located in the former Constitution Bar, a bun’s throw from the buzzing, ever-popular shores of Leith, Bundits boasts homemade, cloud-like bao buns for breakfast, lunch and dinner – either to sit-in, takeaway or to devour on its outdoor terrace (an Edinburgh rarity, like the sun itself!).
Its fluffy Hirata buns – meaning steamed and filled Japanese bao buns – are made from scratch everyday in the Bundits kitchen, and packed with fresh, unique flavour combos.
For chicken lovers, opt for Bundits’ bestselling Korean fried chicken bao, with kewpie mayo and Asian slaw. For those who prefer it fishy, dive into the prawn katsu, with shredded lettuce ponzu mayo and sweet chilli sauce.
Veggies and vegan needn’t fret either, as Bundits boast a salt and pepper tofu bun, with house hoisin, Asian slaw and chilli oil. as well as its braised shiitake mushroom option, with carrot pickle, crispy onions and truffle mayo (which can be made vegan on request). There’s also a bun laden with a Beyond Burger patty, vegan cheese, dill pickles and sriracha mayo.

It would be wrong not to order a bun with a side of skinny fries and roasted garlic mayo, miso soup, homemade kimchi, or edamame beans, wouldn’t it?
The popular spot also serves coffee, a range of pretty standard draught beers, wines and £5 cocktails every day from its extensive drinks menu, as well as small plates and rice boxes to boot, if you’re not in the mood for buns.
Don’t worry if you’re tight on cash too, as Bundits offers £2 chicken buns on Thursday evenings for guests who decide to dine in, as well as £7.95 lunch options; for under £8, you can grab your favourite bao with fries and a drink. There’s also the option to add a pudding and a drink, if you’re in the mood to treat yo’self.

Bundits hosts a quiz on Wednesday nights and is perfect for parties too, with private dining spaces, sharing platters, £20 cocktail pitchers – and even the option to shake those buns with Karaoke in front of 30 pals.
Bundits is as trendy as Leith itself, with art by local illustrator, KMG, donning the walls, plushy booths and a leopard-print floor à la Pat Butcher.
Owner Matthew said: “Opening Bundits of Leith as a proper venue is a massive milestone for us and has been a long time coming. We genuinely couldn’t quite believe just how supportive people were of our pop-up and how quickly they embraced this more relaxed style of cooking from us.
“This is the next step and we want it to be nothing short of perfect, so we’ve been working tirelessly to create a venue that will burst with energy, great food, music and drinks.
“We are of course not stopping there, so keep a close eye on future updates. We can’t wait.” Edinburgh, it’s time to get bunned.
