If you’re looking for a dessert that’s rich, indulgent and chocolate-y then you can’t go wrong with a molten chocolate lava cake

The crème de la crème of chocolate desserts. Here’s where to find the best ones in Auckland.

Conch
cuisinesSouth American

Conch Kitchen and Bar serves South American inspired food including dishes like tacos and lamb chorizo, both are a great starting point for the evening. But it’s their dessert we love the most. Conch has created a perfectly balanced dessert with their molten chocolate lava cake. Combining gooey hot chocolate fondant buried deep within a chocolate cake, served with a mixed berry jam and a dollop of mascarpone cream. While the lava cake can be overwhelmingly chocolate-y on its own (no complaints here!), when paired with the thick creamy mascarpone and the tangy burst of berries – it’s a dessert made in heaven. The compatible flavours work together to enhance the overall dish.

The Blue Breeze Inn
cuisinesAsian Fusion

The Blue Breeze Inn takes inspiration for their dishes from Kiwi innovation and ancient Chinese tradition. Each dish on the menu requires a certain level of skill and passion to combine the flavours perfectly. So, it comes as no surprise the same effort is also extended to their desserts. Usually, desserts are the fastest dish to arrive at the table but at The Blue Breeze Inn it takes a little longer. In order to create their famous choc pot, they need 20 minutes to prepare the dish. The wait is worth every mouth-watering bite. The dessert needs to be cooked to perfection so that when you dig your spoon in the chocolate sauce oozes out. At The Blue Breeze Inn their choc pot is a twist on the classic molten chocolate lava cake, using rhubarb and coffee syrup. If you love chocolate then this is the dessert for you.

Tony’s Steakhouse
cuisinesModern New Zealand

Tony’s Steakhouse has been a longstanding resident in Auckland’s restaurant scene and has earned its stripes, garnering the love and loyalty of locals and tourists. Tony’s Steakhouse has been serving up the best steaks in town for almost 60 years. With all that experience under their belt they know what their customers want and need when they dine out. And in order to have a well-rounded evening you need a sweat treat after the main course. Tony’s take on the molten chocolate lava cake comes in the form of a chocolate hot pot. They have perfected the art of creating the soft chocolate cake while keeping the sauce inside hot and gooey. This chocolate lava cake is served with berry coulis to balance out the rich flavours and drizzled with even more decadent chocolate sauce.
