The Liverpool guide to Palentine's / Galentine's Day
Will you be my Palentine? This February, celebrate what is fast becoming a uniquely popular holiday – Palentine’s Day. A day that celebrates the platonic soul mates in your life. Palentine’s Day is often celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, on 13th February – the same day as Galentine’s Day, the female-centric holiday made famous from the television show Parks and Recreation.
So, if you’re looking for a less romantic, but fun place to hang out with the special people in your life, look no further!
Situated on the beautiful and historic Albert Dock, Revolucion de Cuba adds another cultural landmark to this world-famous location. With happy hour Monday-Friday between 3pm and 7pm, you can bag yourself 2-4-1 on sassy, spicy and strong cocktails. What better way to banish those February blues than with some salsa music, a caipirinha or two, and some delicious tex-Mexican style food?
The clue is in the name! This is the place to come and have a laugh with your friends. PINS is all about having fun, real fun, proper serious fun. This place has taken socialising back to the good old days, when a night out wasn’t just a few drinks at the bar and Instagramming the whole thing, but an experience. PINS will be injecting your Palentine’s / Galentine’s Day with some healthy competitive sports. From bowling lanes to shuffleboard, PINS has got it. From wine, spirits and cocktails, to burgers and loaded fries!
A new addition to the hustle and bustle of Liverpool’s iconic Bold Street, Pizza Punks kind of does what it says in the name… offer pizzas (and pasta), but in a slightly unconventional way! This is not your stereotypical Italian, put it that way. As a fast-growing independent company, Pizza Punks loves to challenge “the norm” with its anti-establishment outlook. It sticks its finger up to the corporate chains by putting people and products before profit. It also gives power to the people by allowing you to create your own pizza with unlimited toppings for no extra cost! Expect very boozy cocktails that will blow your head off to boot.
When we visited last, we may have been privy to some secrets… City Wine Bar and Kitchen has opened its doors to the occasional footballer. So, if you’re looking for love, not only will you find it at the bottom of one of the AMAZING wines, but you may also find it sitting at the bar. City Wine Bar offers a cosy, relaxed atmosphere and really friendly service, which makes it a great hangout spot to sit, sip wine and put the world to right! It also serves a great selection of food from a katsu curry to steak and chips.
Not to be confused with Albert’s Schenke, Albert’s Schloss is the more rowdy little sister. Opening in late 2022, this is a new edition to the Bold Street family of bars, restaurants and shops. Think Bavarian bier haus but with drag queens and people dancing on the tables. No joke! The venue serves a great selection of worldwide beers as well as cocktails and great food including indulgent Alpine dishes such as Schweinshaxe, Spatzle and Fondue with a modern Schloss Twist. Schloss Klassics also include crispy Stiegl bier-battered Fish and Chips, Coquille Pretzel Pie, and Paprikash Chicken and many more amazing dishes! This is a great place to let your inhibitions go and have a sing-song with your friends watching a live band and incredible entertainers.
Located by Liverpool Lime Street, the Boom: Battle Bar is perfect for the weekend. Get set for a host of wild activities including Bavarian axe throwing, crazier golf, augmented reality darts and shuffleboard all rolled into one location. It also serves tantalising twists on cocktail classics. This is Liverpool’s best location for a fun-filled location! Expect loaded fries and chicken wings to gorge on in between games, too.
If you fancy taking part in the axe throwing, then make sure you’re sober before arriving; the staff also don’t allow alcohol whilst you throw – that wouldn’t end well. But, if you’re worried about beheading your mates, maybe you’d rather spend your fun day out in Liverpool playing crazy golf… but you’ve never seen it this crazy. Catapults, loops, conveyors… they have it all! You can drink as much as you like playing this, so why not try a Britany Spritz? It’s like Britney Spears, but in a glass.
Hot Water Comedy Club was founded in 2010 by brothers Paul and Binty Blair, and since then has gone on to become one of the most successful comedy clubs in the world and it’s right here in Liverpool!
The club started off at a nightclub in Liverpool City Centre. In December 2016, the brothers opened Liverpool’s first purpose built comedy club, open seven days a week, which rapidly achieved unprecedented success. Located on Seel Street in the heart of town it wasn’t long before the comedy club was attracting visitors from not just all over the UK, but all over the world.
We have included this on our list because their delicious BBQ, hickory, smokey and generally delicious food is hard to eat when you’re trying to flirt and not get sauce or cheese down your outfit! With friends, who cares? Their huge range of meats include steaks, burgers, wings, Cuban sandwiches, hickory pulled pork, you name it, Red Dog Saloon has probably cooked it in their fire pit… They also serve amazing cocktails!
If you’re looking for cocktails, street food and a good time, head to Golf Fang with your pals this Valentine’s day! This is not your average crazy golf course and Golf Fang doesn’t do things by half! With 18 holes of pure entertainment such as live DJs playing until 1am on the weekends, in an environment surrounded by bespoke art, this is the perfect location to have with your friends!
When we think of Palentine’s dates, we think good food, good drinks and a good party! Alma De Cuba ticks all of those boxes. Situated in the magnificent, converted St. Peter’s church that can accommodate both small and large parties, the restaurant offers Latin American, Cuban and Hispanic cuisine with dishes such as ribs and jerk chicken. They also have an extensive list of spirits, bottles, wines and cocktails to get the party started.
