There is something about Salt House Bacaro in Liverpool that makes you want to spend all day and evening in there, talking with friends, laughing, whispering; draining your wallet on lots and lots of its food. And you won’t even care. That’s not to say Salt House Bacaro is particularly expensive, but it is very addictive and temptation is everywhere. From Paddy Smith’s Red and Blue group, which already runs the hugely popular Salt House Tapas and Hanover Street Social, Bacaro is all about ciccheti, the Italian version of tapas: diminutive, and, as the saying (almost) goes, perfecto formed. The attention and passion is evident. Spinach puree and pea shoots elevate goats cheese pearls into the heavens. Or try acorn-fed Iberico ham; Venetian, slow cooked duck ragout; a handful of pizzettes, and wonderful Stornoway black pudding with chicken livers in Marsala. Don’t miss the grilled king scallops in shells (£3.50 each), a perfect 10. Thirsty? Choose one of 10 different Camparis or a Bellini from a magnificent list.
