The menu at The Star showcases simple modern British cooking with an Italian influence, using the best seasonal Sussex produce. The hotel serves Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner and Bar snacks. The 15th century front of the hotel, known as The Inn, is dog-friendly, and opens on to the High Street, offering relaxed all day dining with local beers, wines and creative cocktails, against the backdrop of oak beams and open fires, creating a cosy atmosphere. The Library is a peaceful retreat, with wall-to-wall bookshelves filled with poetry, short stories and novels by British authors, curated by Much Ado Books; here guests can enjoy a drink, play a board game, or borrow a book to read. The Library has a secret door through to the restaurant at the heart of the hotel. The elegant Restaurant has a striking hand-stencilled monochrome Elizabethan design on the floor by artist Amanda Lawrence, and there are Carrara marble tables with hessian-covered chairs. The room is watched over by Rob and Nick Carter’s mesmerising ‘Transforming' portrait of a blinking lady. The Restaurant has its own inner courtyard and Walled Garden, perfect for warm weather dining. This pretty outdoor space has a Mediterranean feel, with lots of terracotta pots, climbing plants, flint walls and pleached laurels.
