The Bell has a reputation for intrigue and artistry inside and out. The restaurant showcases some of The Bell’s extensive art collection, including a Picasso print, a lithograph by Henry Moore as well as work by contemporary artists including Tracy Emin and Banksy. Lighting is golden but enough to see your menu by, combining hand blown filament bulbs and hats salvaged from the old pub. A tower of books ingeniously held up is the central feature of this enchanting restaurant. Cosy in winter with a roaring log fire, the restaurant is the very place to idle away an hour two with tasty food and talk. Equally snug is the adjoining Stable with the Table, home to a table seating 18, cut from a single tree. In the summer the garden has a real holiday vibe as diners eat on hand crafted tables from local ash, each different, under a blanket of Mulberry trees, casting a dappled shade. The eye is taken by the differing levels of tables, planting and decoration. And there is yet more delight to be had in the planted gardens around the lodges. A masterclass of successional planting under the watchful eye of local Chelsea Flower Show gold medal garden designer Jo Thompson.
