In recent years, the Northern Quarter has become a bustling hub for art, coffee, vintage clothing, bars and restaurants. It’s now one of the trendiest places to hang out in Greater Manchester. From El Capo to Night & Day, Matt & Phred’s Jazz Café and the Fierce Beer Bar, the competition to be the best bar in the Northern Quarter is endless and competitive. But there a few which stand out due to their uniqueness, quality and aesthetic. There are some bars which stay in the mind, whilst there are those which merge into one another. The Lost Cat is one that you will definitely remember.
What makes the Lost Cat a memorable place to go? We think it’s a combination of factors that make it a place you’ll love. It could be the bottomless brunches, the cocktails, the late-night clubbing or the lovely plants on sale that are the first thing you see when entering the building! In this spotlight feature, we’ll explore reasons why we think it’s one of the best bars in the Northern Quarter.
The food options are some of the best priced and most scrumptious out there in the Northern Quarter. From 5pm to 10pm, the dinner menu is available. This consists of halloumi sliders, cheeseburgers, tofu burgers, buffalo chicken and even delicious chocolate fudge French toast! All are below £2.50 – yes £2.50! Fries are also available. You can even have jalapeño fries!
But it’s the brunches that are the talk of the town. From midday till 4pm, brunch is served. From fried chicken French toast to the vegan stack and the monte cristo bagel, the options are both delectable and filling. Prices here also do not go above £2.50. It’s one the best boozy bottomless brunches in the area. Priced at only £25 per person for 90 minutes, you will find it hard to get a better deal elsewhere. You get the option to select three plates, in addition you’ll get a load of hash browns and vegan pancakes, too. Definitely more choice than the normal brunch menu. You also get a bottomless selection of selected drinks, form bloody Mary’s to the Italian thug and mimosas. Speaking of booze, we should talk more about the drinks here…
As cocktails are a large proponent of a boozy brunch, we’ll start there. The Lost Cat’s cocktails will awaken your taste buds and make you want to boogie all day. They’ll inspire you to even make your own cocktail concoctions. From classics to innovative twists, there is a lot to choose from.
The Italian thug is a classic for us, combining gin, watermelon, Campari, Vermouth and soda. It’ll get you feeling like you are on the coast of Sicily. The Frantic Mother, a mix between gin, Aperol, grapefruit and prosecco and the Ellerbee, a combination of Irish whiskey, hot honey, lemon and cider are also great choices. The Frantic Mother will get you dancing, whilst the Ellerbee will make you feel at ease with life. There are many other cocktails available, too.
Oh, we should also mention that there’s a special two-for-one deal on cocktails between 5pm and 9pm every day! An absolute bargain. In terms of other drinks, there are sensible and beautiful craft beers amongst the usual lagers. There’s also a wide range of white and red wines as well. But if you prefer sparkling, then the Pontebello Prosecco or the Bolney Bubbly are the options for you.
There are not many places better for a dance in the Northern Quarter. Easily spotted by its neo sign, the Lost Cat welcomes late night stragglers and regulars. It’s open until 3am most days, making it a great place to have a late night boogie. It has a modern and cosy aesthetic, full of plants and cool objects. The Lost Cat is not afraid to push the boat on anything. That’s why it has numerous events on, from DJ nights at the weekend to bottomless brunches and Quizzkers – the quiz night on the last Wednesday of every month. Expect silly questions, gifts and fun.
The Lost Cat is a special place, a venue you will not forget and one that is worth returning even with all the competition in the Northern Quarter. It very much stands out from the crowd with its unique character and friendly charm that will make you want to visit again.
