Spring has sprung in Auckland, it's the perfect time for a picnic.
Following the NZ government's announcement of their new 3-stage roadmap for Alert Level 3, Aucklanders can now indulge in outdoor gatherings with one other bubble with no more than 10 people. This means picnics in the park are back on. During this current alert level, we'll be bringing you the very best places to pop into to gather all the best picnic supplies possible.Heading up one of our great maunga for a picnic with a view? Stop by your nearest café to pick up some refreshing drinks and daily cabinet treats. Our go-to is Mt Eden’s Circus Circus, with its range of sweet and savoury muffins, slices, and cakes, as well as an outstanding coffee and drinks selection.
Feel like treating yourself to something a little special? Ponsonby’s Little and Friday has all the aesthetic treats to create an Insta-worthy picnic spread. From donuts and sweet loaves to brioches and quiche, all you need to do is take your pick from their mouthwatering window display.
With the weather looking a little tragic for outdoor gatherings in Level 3, you may need something to warm you up. A visit to Sumthin Dumplin should do just the trick. Choose between a 6-pack or 10-pack of their handmade dumplings filled with either pork, beef, chicken, tofu, or prawn. Load them up with their chilli mayo and you won’t even feel the cold.
No picnic is really complete without a pastry or two. Amano’s in-house flour mill and bakery mean everything is as fresh as can be. Their Brunch Box contains pastries, granola, fresh juice, bread and preserves with enough to generously feed two.
Sweet or savoury – take your pick at any of Auckland’s Best Ugly Bagel stores and head to your nearest park for an easy, tasty picnic. From their classics including the King Salmon and Tuna Melt to simple schmears, Best Ugly’s quality local ingredients and freshly-rolled bagels make it a knock-out take-out every time.
For those venturing West or North this Level 3, Wen and Yen has bakeries in Titirangi and Albany to cater your outdoor gatherings. With a range of vegan, gluten-free, and traditional cakes, donuts, and slices, they have something for everyone. Pick up some treats for the sweetest picnic in the park.
Hawker rolls and dumplings sounds like our kind of picnic. Madam Woo is offering a range of hearty Malaysian dishes from their Takapuna venue. Opt for your favourite dishes or select one of their family feast or date night deals for a taste of everything.
