There’s nothing more decadent that a juicy and seared piece of tender steak is there? For the more carnivorous amongst us, we’ve rounded up Glasgow’s hotspots for the best place to sink your teeth into some seriously tasty cuts of beef. Whether it’s a special occasion, lunch with your mates or simply because you need to fulfil those meaty cravings, we have you covered!
Award-winning steak restaurant Porter & Rye has been whipping up quite the stir since it opened in 2014. Located in the heart of Finnieston and with its uber chic décor, this steakhouse is hip and contemporary. A meal here feels decidedly fancy. The menu boasts fine meats, wild food, seasonal cocktails and superior wine. All of their dry-aged beef is treated in-house and they specialise in some lesser known ‘Butcher’s Cuts’ (such as bavette and onglet) if you’re keen to try something new. The meat is sourced locally from Airdrie and their fresh produce is mostly foraged in the surrounding area by their very own chefs. Prices vary (from £45 for a 16oz T-Bone Steak to £18 for a Bavette) so there’s something to satisfy all budgets. Waiters are happy to recommend wine pairings – and if you have room – their dessert menu is something to behold: from fruit baked Alaska made with Italian meringue, to coffee and chocolate delice and tangy sour cherry sorbet, there’s no excuse not to treat yourself.
O Sole Mio is a traditional Italian restaurant established in 1965, making it the oldest existing Italian restaurant in Glasgow! Alongside classic Italian favourites of pizza and pasta is a sirloin steak we can’t get enough of. This 8oz sirloin steak is simply seasoned and grilled, and served with hand-cut chips. You can also choose between a pepper sauce or Diane sauce to accompany your steak.
Luciano’s is a contemporary 50-cover restaurant offering authentic flavours of Italy with a modern twist, delivered in a stylish and sophisticated setting. On the La Carne section of the a la carte menu are two steak options: the first is a juicy Brasato di Manzo, braised feather blade of beef, with red wine and rosemary sauce, mashed potato and vegetables; while the second is a Tagliata di Manzo, grilled sliced beef bavette, with rocket, cherry tomato, shaved Parmesan, and skinny fries.
Villa Toscana prides itself on creating an authentic, warm and welcoming atmosphere. The service aims to be friendly yet professional, while striving to make each and every dining experience one to remember. One dish you’ll never forget is the Filetto Di Manzo – an 8oz grilled fillet of prime Scottish beef served with potatoes. If you prefer a sirloin, this is also available; the Bistecca Alla Griglia comes with chips.
Cafe Gandolfi is renowned as a Scottish institution, offering the best of Scottish produce in dishes which evolve and delight in equal measure. Keep in mind the menu does rotate, and if you see that steaks on the menu then seize the opportunity because the cuts here have received rave reviews from locals. The dishes might change but this warm bistro, with its high ceilings and old-world vibe, is a magical choice all year round.
Nestled in the vibrant heart of the city, Meat Joint Scottish Steakhouse offers a relaxed dining experience with a dedicated focus on premium, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant prides itself on its selection of prime cuts, from the classic ribeye to the sumptuous chateaubriand, all flame-grilled to perfection. The atmosphere, characterised by warm wooden accents and soft lighting, makes it an ideal locale for both romantic dinners and family gatherings. Don’t miss their signature whiskey peppercorn sauce, a perfect complement to any steak choice!
