Julius Pizzeria
cuisinesItalian, Pizza

A few years ago Julius burst onto Brisbane’s Fish Lane scene and you still can’t walk by without hearing and feeling a buzz. This place seriously rocks and keeps on rocking.

While Julius offers plenty of great Italian dishes, including our favourite cavatelli con cime di rapa aka small shell-shaped pasta with cime di rapa, anchovies, chilli, garlic, smoked burrata and toasted breadcrumbs, it’s all about the pizza.

There are two types: red or white. We’re purists, so we suggest the classic Margherita for first timers, but you should come back for the Number 1, which takes your Margherita and levels it up with thinly sliced prosciutto di Parma. However, sometimes we find it hard to resist the Tartufo. I mean who doesn’t like mozzarella, smoked bacon, portobello mushrooms, stracchino and truffle paste?

Julius hasn’t flagged in popularity since it opened and while it keeps serving these delicious wheels of goodness, it’s unlikely you’ll ever see an empty seat there.

Dish Cult’s top pick: Taleggio pizza – mozzarella, taleggio, pork and fennel sausage, roasted desiree potatoes, rosemary and red onion ($27)

Corbett and Claude
cuisinesPizza, Cocktails

Ahh Corbett and Claude – you started as one and now you are three: Brisbane City, Everton Park and Garden City. We remember our first visit to the just opened Elizabeth Street location, we were blown away by the Truffle beef pizza with its creamy sauce, fior di latte mozzarella, mushrooms, roast beef, and caramelised onions topped with truffle mayo.

The Truffle beef pizza comes from the specials menu, but you’ll also find classics – we love the Smoked ham and pineapple – and cigar pizzas, the house’s signature rolled pizza, where deliciously oozy fillings are enclosed in pizza dough.

But, a word of warning, do not forget to start with the cheesy garlic bread. This is so good that sometimes, only sometimes, we don’t make it past these loaves of cheesy garlicky goodness.

Washed down with the bestest cocktails, which will be whatever the bar person at C&C tells you it is, you won’t be sorry!

Dish Cult’s top pick: The man eater – rolled pizza filled with Napoletana sauce, fior di latte mozzarella, Italian sausage, smoked ham, spicy pepperoni, caramelised onion and bbq sauce ($27)

Salt Meats Cheese
cuisinesItalian, Pizza

Salt Meats Cheese is a Newstead institution and we think there’s one good old fashioned reason for it: the food.

The menu might fit on one page but the pizza is exceptional. If you’re into the way the Italians cure their meat, try the Meat lovers; it has double smoked ham, pancetta, sausage, and salami – tasty for sure!

From one extreme to the other, vegans will love the Fable pizza which has tomato, notzarella, fable marinated porcini juice, green peas, caramelised onion and garlic oil

Whatever you choose, know that SMC has a homey, welcoming vibe that’s hard to replicate. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s small, and you get to watch someone making your very own individually tailored pizza. Much better than waiting at home for delivery! Oh and in the cooler weather, yes, it’s about enjoying the warmth of a wood fired oven too.

Dish Cult’s top pick: From the North – mozzarella, gorgonzola, parmigiano, reggiano, pancetta, walnuts. ($25)

Superfly Pizza
cuisinesPizza

There’s nothing flash about Superfly’s menu, they offer a handful of pizzas and they don’t worry about the frills, but what they do worry about is providing you with heaps of flavour and excellent quality.

For the not-so-keen-on-meat peeps this is heaven. The Four cheese pizza crams blue cheese, bocconcini, mozzarella and parmesan onto a crispy crust. But perhaps the pièce de résistance is the Shrooms pizza – heaps of mushrooms and truffle on a white base made cheesy with mozzarella and parmesan.

Superfly’s pizzas are all about the crispy crusty tastiness. Treat yourself, you deserve it. But, shock horror, if you’re not into pizza, they also do super tasty meatballs.

Dish Cult’s top pick: Pepperoni – salami, mozzarella, parmesan, basil ($22)

Tinderbox Kitchen
cuisinesItalian, Pizza

Tinderbox has heart, lots of community heart. The ingredients are locally sourced, and the beers come from crafty south-east Queenslander brewers too.

To kick off here we suggest the sides – Tinderbox is known far and wide for the wood-roasted cauliflower with raisins and yoghurt dressing for good reason. The smoky goodness is perfect for the cooler weather.

Now to the main event – excellent pizza! Go the San Daniele because the fresh rocket balances the prosciutto and parmigiano perfectly. The Italian sausage pizza features organic pumpkin, buffalo ricotta and broccoli, and it’s so good it’s hard to share.

Now this seems to be a rather odd combo for a pizza but don’t let that fool you, the Savoyarde packs potato, rosemary, leek and onions onto one seriously crowded but delish pizza.

Dish Cult’s top pick: The Tinderbox – Mooloolaba prawns, zucchini, chilli, fior di latte mozzarella, basil and cherry tomatoes ($24)
