This restaurant is The Good Food Guide’s Best Local Restaurant in the North West for 2023 and is in the Michelin Guide for a reason. That reason is the food is simply astonishingly done. Located in Cheetham Hill not far from the city centre, The Sparrows Continental specialises in pasta and Spätzle. Spätzle is fresh noodle-like pasta made with flour, egg and water, which is famous in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and other nearby places. The name was chosen partly because of what sparrows means. For example, in Celtic tradition sparrows are keepers of ancestral knowledge.
Their cheese fondue is simply gorgeous and full of flavour. Made with 150g of the Swiss cheese Appenzeller and mortadella sausage with focaccia bread to dip in the fondue. On the side you’ll have cherry tomatoes, new potatoes and pickles, all perfect for dipping. You can also have gnocchi or Spätzle with tomato sauce, chorizo, bolognese and more. Included in them are some of the very best cheeses in Manchester, sourced from Crafty Cheese Man (world-famous in Manchester!). From flatbreads to whipped goats curd to pate, they have some amazing pairings to go with your wine and cocktails. But we are here to talk about their fondue and their fondue is mouthwatering.

There are so many options to choose from. Charcuterie, cheese and meat boards are very much worth having a try too and they go well with chocolate fondue. Their chocolate fondue is not always available, but it is worth looking out for it – so,if you are lucky enough to try it, you will love it. However, as they recommend themselves, you should buy their cheese to make their own fondue. If you have the set, it is not hard to make a fondue as it is simply melted cheese in a pot with herbs and slightly stale bread top dip into the melted cheese. They have a range of cheeses they recommend for this, notably their excellent Emmental cheese that brings a nutty taste to the fondue. If you want an authentic French deli experience or want to buy some fantastic French cheese to make a stunning fondue, then you should visit the Petit Paris Deli.
