La Tortilleria
cuisinesMexican, Gluten free

Corn is the backbone of Mexican cuisine making it perfect for a gluten free diet. Through an ancient process, this starchy staple is transformed into delicious tortillas, and not many people make them as good as Kensington’s own La Tortilleria.

Showcasing fresh, award-winning and made-from-scratch tortillas that you may have seen at a supermarket near you, La Tortilleria delivers delicious and authentic Mexican street food to Melbournians in need of their taco fix.

The restaurant’s menu of tacos, tostadas and quesadillas is proudly 100% gluten free. Other dietary requirements are happily accommodated, and it’s worth noting that the vegan ‘meat’ option is surprisingly tasty.

Make sure you book ahead, this place is popular!

Hella Good
cuisinesGreek, Gluten free

Being gluten free has never been easier, and in Melbourne you can enjoy the only Greek souvlaki that’s been accredited by Coeliac Australia.

The signature pita and the toppings on Hella Good’s souvas are as its name suggests, hella good! Choose from tender chicken or marinated lamb straight from the spit or try the meatless fritters slathered with homemade tzatziki sauce – all souvlakis can be made gluten free upon request.

An allergen matrix listed on its website helps further navigate whatever your dietary needs might be. While the portions are generous we recommend ordering a side of thick cut, zesty hot chips and some cinnamon rice pudding for dessert.

Dish Cult’s top pick: Marinated lamb shoulder souvlaki ($15.90)

Glazed
cuisinesBakery, Patisserie, Gluten free, Dairy free

Having to give up comfort foods makes adjusting to a gluten free lifestyle especially tricky, but Glazed in Elsternwick has you covered.

This outstanding Coeliac Australia accredited bakery and patisserie makes some of the best gluten free bread you’ll ever try, and the whole shop is also free from dairy, soy and nuts.

Having built quite a following, this shop attracts customers from far and wide – and for good reason. Always fresh, the loaves are crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside.

Glazed offers assorted bagels, challah, Turkish bread and focaccia too. Every Wednesday, naan, laffa or pita bread can be preordered. But the choices don’t stop there, chef Liran Adika (who trained at Vue De Monde) spoils us with his ‘delectable desserts’ ranging from whole cakes to individual sweet bites, muffins, lamingtons and his signature Krembos (think fluffy meringue encased in chocolate).

Dish Cult’s top pick: Krembo assorted 6 pack ($24)

Ciao Mamma!
cuisinesItalian, Gluten free

When eating out, it often feels like gluten free requests can only be ‘accommodated’, at best. Some restaurants, however, put this dietary requirement front and centre. Ciao Mamma! in Brunswick is one of them.

Proudly accredited by Coeliac Australia the first question your server will probably ask you is if you have a gluten intolerance. The menu here is full of delicious Italian foods that many have been missing out on.

For starters, try Mamma’s bread rolls, fried calamari, or arancini balls. Next top your freshly made gnocchi, fettuccine or casarecce with a choice of sauce (we love the sugo all’amatriciana). To finish your meal try to choose between the Nutella doughnuts, tiramisu or cannoli. The struggle is real. All we can say is grazie mille – it feels good to feel welcome!

Dish Cult’s top pick: Fettuccine Amatriciana ($32)

Seedling Cafe
cuisinesGluten free, Health food, Vegan, Keto

Get your smashed avo toast, superfood salads, organic smoothies or bulletproof coffees at this health-focused and 100% gluten free CBD cafe.

Seedling is a cosy little cafe on Flinders Lane whose philosophy is centred around wholefoods and their natural ‘goodness’. A morning meal here will be sure to nourish your mind and fuel your body for the rest of the day. Its vibrant menu is chock full of fresh fruits and veggies that happily caters to those on vegan, paleo and keto diets too.

If you’re after a bigger table expect the same fresh vibe at the cafe’s sister on Little Collins Street.
