March 1st signifies the change in season; we say our goodbyes to summer and greetings to autumn.

We also celebrate the arrival of the legendary Bluff oyster season. Get in while it lasts to devour the freshly shucked creamy oysters served in every way you could desire; start with natural then progress through the many versatile options like; Kilpatrick, battered or in a burger.

Where better to eat oysters than right on the waterfront? Smell the saltwater on the breeze, watch the boats set sail and indulge in the freshest Bluff oysters in town. Oyster and Chop are renowned for their love of oysters; they make shucking a work of art. Bluffies are regarded as the finest oysters in the world and they pair exquisitely with a crisp glass of bubbles on a balmy afternoon. Oyster and Chop have an entire oyster bar dedicated to the delicacy; the oyster bar will accommodate all tastes, styles and regions. From Bluffies to Clevedon Coast, Kilpatrick to natural. You name it, Oyster and Chop have it. There is also a happy hour on oysters from 3pm – 6pm daily.

If there is one place we love to celebrate the Bluffie season, that is Harbourside Bar and Grill. The leisurely all you can eat Bluff Oyster lunch is an event you will not want to miss; we have had it on our calendars since last year. On Friday 11th of March, from 12pm – 3pm, Harbourside will take luxury to a whole new level. Tickers are $195 a head, which gets you a flute of G.H. Mumm Grand Cordon champagne, all you can eat Bluffies served natural, grilled or tempura. Alongside the famous Harbourside seafood platter featuring Cloudy Bay clams, Hokkaido scallop Crudo and NZ scampi tail cocktail. This event is a sell-out; make sure to book in advance!

The Shucker Brothers are eager to kick the season off with shucked to order Bluffies; this raw food bar and seafood extravaganza never cease to amaze with its creative and exciting cuisine. With a menu made to share, this is the perfect spot for friends and family outings or a romantic night for two. The grilled oysters with bacon, bourbon and chipotle butter haunt our dreams. The rich and juicy dish is everything we love in Bluff oysters with a delicious twist. Other ways to enjoy our favourite oyster is naturally with mignonette or tempura-style with wasabi mayonnaise. Regardless of how it arrives, we know we will eat a dozen and still want more.

Soul Bar and Bistro
cuisinesEuropean, Modern New Zealand

Soul Bar and Bistro is elegance, sophistication and luxury brought to life. It comes as no surprise that the Viaduct’s most infamous spot has its supply of Bluffies ready to go. Take a seat in the courtyard with a scenic view of the water while you watch the live shucking in action with a glass of Champagne in hand. While eating oysters in their natural form is our preferred way to indulge, we cannot resist Soul’s beer-battered oysters with sriracha aioli. Or when they roast the oyster in garlic with chilli and soy. Basically, we love Bluffies.

The Oyster Inn
cuisinesSeafood

Bluff oysters taste even better in Waiheke; settle in for a sun-soaked afternoon at The Oyster Inn and indulge in the finer things in life. The beachside bistro is the perfect spot to drink local wine and sample the freshest seafood around. Oysters are delivered daily and shucked to order; the plump and juicy morsels are utterly divine. Have your dozen served natural with mignonette, or dressed with chilli sambal and chives, or finally, have them battered with wasabi mayonnaise. To enhance the experience, we recommend pairing your oysters with a crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc.
