London Marathon
Sunday 3rd October marks the 41st London Marathon. Whether you’re looking for some quick, pre-run fuel, a protein-rich recovery meal, or simply a spot to celebrate your glory — there’s few cities better to do so than in London.
The race begins around Greenwich, and happily this charming area of London has lots to offer in the way of healthy grub. Royal Teas is the perfect spot to grab an energy-rich snack or meal before you embark on your run. The whole menu is vegetarian and full of healthy options. The smoothies are loaded with fruit and veg, and the ‘Goodness Jar’ (filled with granola, Greek yoghurt and cherry compote) makes for the perfect get-up-and-go breakfast. Royal Teas is also a great place to refuel after the run: their burrito wrap is laced with healthy fats and whole grains, and their veg frittata is perfect for vegetarians watching their protein intake.
It’s the night before your big race and your stomach (and legs) are calling out for something carb heavy. Lina Stores has you sorted. Reminiscent of a traditional Italian eatery — complete with a sprawling deli-counter, walls lined with Panettone tins, and the smell of freshly baked Cannoli wafting through the air — this restaurant serves some of the best pasta in the city. From linguine topped with crab, garlic, chilli and samphire, to burrata raviolini with toasted pine nuts, you’ll leave thoroughly satisfied.
Granger & Co is often lauded as one of London’s finest ‘healthy’ eateries — and with good reason! The laid-back but refined atmosphere makes for the perfect location to celebrate your post-run glory, and the Australian-inspired menu will ensure you replenish any depleted energy supplies. Highlights include sweetcorn fritters with roasted tomatoes and spinach, toasted paleo loaf with labneh and crushed yellow tomatoes, and an array of smoothies and shakes.
The marathon finishes nearby The Mall, so if you’re looking for a spot to celebrate your victory, (or grab a bite to eat while you wait for someone else to), Kerridge’s Bar & Grill is the perfect destination. Located inside the beautiful Corinthia Hotel, this restaurant is the perfect place to indulge in some comforting classics. From deep fried lemon sole and chips, lamb cutlet and belly with baby peppers and smoked aubergine, to Himalayan salt-aged Cote de Boef, we guarantee you’ll leave thoroughly satisfied. Relax into the sophisticated surroundings, and soak up the expert service as you make the most of those post-run endorphins. Why not treat yourself to their decadent strawberry soufflé with clotted cream ice cream? You deserve it!
