The decor is relaxed and comfortable, fitted with plenty of seating space and a cosy outdoor beer garden. During the day, they host small business meetings and casual meet-ups but in the evening they open their doors for various weekly events which are drawing in crowds.
Head down to Grey Lynn on a Monday evening from 7pm and get involved in “Serious Quizness”. A comedy quiz written by Brendon Green and hosted weekly by comedian Jack Ansett. It’s a busy one so if you’re arriving with a big group, don’t forget to call and book beforehand to avoid disappointment.
In the mood for a steak but not willing to break the bank? On Tuesday nights they provide an unbeatable deal. For one night only (but also every Tuesday) for $15 get yourself a 250g steak with fries, salad and your choice of sauce from 5pm.
In a similar steal on Wednesday nights, you can choose between any of their eight delicious burgers on the menu again for only $15. We recommend the “Southern Fried Chicken Burger,” consisting of Southern Fried Chicken Breast, Jalapeño Mayo, Gherkin, and Slaw. Add on a pint and your night is sorted!
Who says after-work drinks are reserved for Friday? Not us. Grab your workmates and join in on the ‘Build Your Own Gin and Tonic Night’. All you have to do is pick your favourite gin from their great selection, choose your tastiest tonic and refreshing garnish and create your own perfectly tailored G and T, all for just $12 a pop.
It’s been a long week and you’ve made it to Friday, come relax at the “Happy hours, Happy tunes” from 4-6pm and enjoy 50c chicken wings while dancing the night away to a live DJ.
On Saturday and Sunday, the fun continues with 2 for 1 pizza from 12-6pm. Their pizzas vary from your classic spicy chorizo to something a little fancier like apricot chicken and brie. Even better if you’re fighting that hangover, grab a thirst-quenching and hangover-curing Bloody Mary or Mimosa for only $6.
Apart from their lively events, the cuisine at the Malt Public House has been attracting a lot of positive attention. Their platter selections are perfect for a group setting-The seafood platter boasts the freshest lemon pepper calamari, prawn twists, smoked salmon and jalapeño poppers. For a little more indulgence try the antipasto platter with a selection of meats, cheeses, sun-dried tomatoes, pickles, and mixed-marinated olives.
We tend to end the night with a sneaky dessert. Their jam jar desserts are a special treat. Whether you’re into warm sticky date pudding with warm butterscotch and whipped cream or a classic trifle of layers of sponge cake, vanilla custard, strawberry fruit jelly, and chantilly cream.
Find Malt Public House at the corner of Richmond Road and Hakanoa Street in Grey Lynn, Auckland.
