A roundup of Glasgow's leading Sunday roasts

It’s hard to beat a Sunday roast, isn’t it? Whether it’s enjoyed as a reward at the end of a long week or simply a way to catch up with friends and family, there’s nothing more comforting. Avoid the stress of cooking for yourself and book a table at one of these top restaurants that are all experts in the classic Sunday roast. For meat-lovers, veggies and vegans alike, we have something for you all.

Porter & Rye is a culinary hotspot. Located in well-loved Finnieston, where you’ll find tonnes of trendy eateries, this New-York style restaurant truly stands out. On a Sunday, they run a set-lunch menu consisting of three courses – all for the grand total of £24 per person. It is fantastic value for money. While the only roast option available is beef, we promise it won’t disappoint. The delicately cooked meat is served with Yorkshire puddings, beef dripping potatoes, salt baked mash and seasonal veg with gravy. Starters are excellent too: the Smoked Mackerel Salad is a light and refreshing way to begin your meal. But, if you have some room, we recommend indulging in one of their refined desserts – like their Cherry and Chocolate Opera Cake.

The Loveable Rogue has long attracted visitors from all across the city – all of whom are most interested in the Sunday roast! The price point is fantastic, especially given the quality of ingredients and cooking: at just £35 for two people, you’re missing a trick not booking a table here. Though the roast itself offers only meat options, veggies fear not, on a Sunday you’ll find an entire section of the menu dedicated to meat-free options. This one isn’t for the faint hearted – the roast comes with brisket mac ‘n’ cheese and a large portion of garlic roasted potatoes. Arrive hungry and soak up the cosy intimate atmosphere.

Sunday’s at The Spanish Butcher are always busy and bustling. And with good reason too – their famous roast dinners have been drawing the city’s residents in since its opening. If you’re a vegetarian and ever felt slightly short-changed by the roast options, The Spanish Butcher (despite its meaty name!) has you covered. Alongside their more traditional offerings of Roasted Sirloin Beef and Turkey you’ll find a flavoursome “Cauliflower Steak” served with salsa verde piquillo peppers and caperberries. Their roasts are truly delectable, but why not start with one of the Spanish-inspired starters? The Jambon Iberico Croquetas and Seville Orange Gin Cured Salmon are not to be missed.
