After a thrilling whirlwind of hosting the Cult Icon Awards for 2022, the judging panel had one last task – to determine your ultimate Cult Icon Winner.
Dish Cult Editor, Grace Noles, alongside fellow foodie-enthusiasts, Joyce Lau (Food Review NZ) and Ayaan Shaikh (Auck Eats) set out to decide, out of the ten category winners, who would take the top spot on the podium for venue of the year.
Factors that were taken into consideration included consistency, location, ambience, decor, service, uniqueness, and the overall quality of each experience.
The Cult Icon Awards judging panel for 2022 is overjoyed to announce our Cult Icon of 2022 title goes to Amano in Britomart.
Winner of their category, ‘Cafés We Love’, we wanted to similarly highlight the overall exquisiteness of their full daytime and nighttime service.
From the conversation piece that is Amano’s interior alone, and their delectable dishes and pastries to their world-class service and clearly visible passion that goes into the entire operation, Amano is a grand institution of Tāmaki Makaurau, as well as a pillar of the Britomart precinct.
Starting your morning at Amano sees you welcomed with a warm smile, quality coffee, and a seasonal menu of dishes that sit in a class of their own. A flavourful way to start the day if you’re dining à la carte, otherwise transport yourself to the streets of Paris with any of Amano’s freshly baked pastries – the almond croissant a staple in our diets.
By night, romance is well and truly alive at Amano, with soft mood lighting and a classical ambience. Handmade pasta, fresh kaimoana and locally-sourced meats are on the menu, offering the perfect opportunity to order up and share amongst the table.
Unreplicable, Amano sets the tone for European food in Auckland City. You’ll be hard pushed to find someone who doesn’t recommend Amano when you’re seeking out an eatery.
“The taste of their chitarra will literally keep you up at night and it’s a craving you can’t satisfy anywhere else,” says Joyce.
A visit to Amano is never one and done, there are dishes that keep you coming back time and time again, as well as the added intrigue of what Amano will do next.
A true exemplar of what the country’s hospitality industry is capable of producing, Amano is our standout venue of the past 12 months, and your Cult Icon of the Year.
