Where to go for American food in the UK and Ireland

Is it really a shock to learn that American food is among our favourite across the UK and Ireland? Burgers, fries, hot dogs and fried chicken – we’re here for all. And we haven’t even gotten to the mac n cheese, doughnuts or desserts yet! As an homage to one of the most popular cuisines in the country, here’s a roundup of some of the best American restaurants in the UK and Ireland.

Fancy Hank’s bar and kitchen is tucked away in the laid-back streets of the historic Minster Quarter and offers good mood food inspired by two brothers’ travels through the 11 states of America’s Deep South. Inspired by southern street food, Fancy Hank’s brings soulful, feel-good flavours from its dishes to its cocktails. We particularly love the buttermilk fried chicken dinner – Buttermilk Chicken Breast served with corn on the cob, mash potato, southern gravy and a buttermilk biscuit.

Family favourite TGI Fridays have locations everywhere, so you’ll undoubtedly find one close to you. The American chain is perfect for a celebration, thanks to its tempting dishes, famous cocktails and amazing team – all the ingredients to get the party started. The burgers here are nothing short of sensational. The Louisiana Hot Mess is a fave, while the Classic American Cheese is… well, a classic! But if you’re really hungry, nothing beats The Towering Inferno. This double stacked burger brings the heat as it’s loaded with two mouthwatering beef patties as well as jalapeños and extra Habanero relish.

HILLS is a family-run restaurant, owned by husband and wife, Owain and Emily and their daughters, Matilda and Tabitha. HILLS is very proud of its young front of house team, headed up by Owain. All produce here is sourced locally, using some of the best producers in Wales. The specialty here are burgers and these guys truly excel in this department. There are some real options to salivate over, including the Chips and Gravy Cheeseburger, but as we’re focusing on the American angle look no further than the New York – pastrami, sauerkraut, HILLS burger sauce and cowboy pickles.

If you’re after barbecue food in Northern Ireland, consider Embankment. This 100 seater restaurant in the heart of Ebrington Square, Derry offers some delicious chicken, meat and fish flavours straight off the grill. The Louisiana Chicken with chorizo cream sauce and tobacco onions is a game changer, while the signature Embankment 50/50 comprises a 6oz rump, cajun chicken, champ, onion rings, roast tomato and pepper sauce. Wow.

Mister S in Dublin works with the best small producers in Ireland and cooks this amazing produce over a bespoke wood grill. From a selection of starters we’d recommend the Smoked Lamb, Gem, Anchovy Dressing and from the mains, look no further than the Smoked Shortrib and Chimichurri. Need something sweet to round off a perfect meal? Of course you do! Go for the Caramel Chocolate Tart with Sea Salt Ice Cream and thank us later!
