Spotlight on The Laslett in London
The Laslett is a gorgeous boutique hotel in the heart of Notting Hill. Given its super location, the hotel’s Henderson Bar and Kitchen is aptly named; it was named after Russell ‘Russ’ Henderson, one of the founding fathers of the Notting Hill Carnival. This welcoming neighbourhood hangout is open to both guests and locals alike. Created by Head Chef Andre, the venue’s offerings present classics with a twist, using local and British ingredients from the likes of Natoora, HG Walter, and Sally Clarke. Here’s the lowdown on everything you need to know about Notting Hill gem.
Food, glorious food
Now serving breakfast, brunch and supper from its cosy heated terrace, Henderson Bar and Kitchen is a fabulous place for all food and drinks, from coffees and cocktails, to pasta and pastries.
Breakfast is served weekdays 7am-11am, and 7.30am-11am on the weekends. We cannot recommend The Laslett Breakfast highly enough. How do you like your eggs in the morning? You can have them cooked any style you like. These will come with richly wonderful English treacle bacon (a delicious balance between sweet and salty), Cumberland sausage (yum), hashbrown, Portobello mushroom, roasted tomato, Big Beans (which are heavenly) and toast – veggie options are also available.
Planning an evening booking? The supper menu boasts some exquisite options. Start with whipped feta and truffle hummus (so good), and mop these up with pitta bread and crudite. When it comes to the plates and bowls for your mains, we’d recommend the Saffron Chicken or Pappardelle Pasta. The former is served with preserved lemon, Aleppo pepper and cous cous, while the latter is comfort food in a bowl – the lamb ragu delicious and hearty; a pesto and parmesan option is also available.
Cheers
The Henderson bar menu serves arguably the best cocktails in the area. Try the Henderson’s Rum Punch if you want some sweet, strong and spiced, or the Jalapeno Margarita if you want something spicy. For a touch of elegance, go for the X Muse Martini, made with X Muse Vodka, Noilly Prat Vermouth, L’Olive Distille and Caperberry.
There’s also an impressive wine list, as well as delicious mocktails if you’re not drinking. If you are ordering the lamb ragu pasta dish, we’d highly recommend the Rioja, available by the bottle or by the glass.
Artistic
The story of The Laslett may be rooted in Notting Hill’s past, but it will be a resolute part of Notting Hill’s future. A catalyst in the area’s creative resurgence, The Laslett’s philosophy centres on the support of British art and design, particularly artists who have forged a personal or artistic connection with the area.
The Library is beautifully designed and furnished with handcrafted bespoke pieces and brimming with British art and design books. It’s an intimate space with an inspiring atmosphere, ideal if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to work.
