With iconic staples and new innovative dishes, you can explore the wonders of veganism at your favourite spots.
Morningside’s resident plant-based café is a popular spot for Sunday brunches, a quick coffee stop before work and leisurely weekday breakies. Kind Café makes healthy, fresh and seasonal cuisine that takes diners on a journey of eating Kind-ly. While the menu is predominantly plant-based; there are other options available to suit different dietary requirements; every option is delicious.
Try something truly sensational and unique with the vegamisu plant-based pancakes; the tiramisu-inspired stack comes with vegan cream, coffee syrup, cacao nibs and chocolate powder. If you prefer your breakfast with a savoury spin, the avocado on toast is unbeatable with smoked chilli peanut butter, dukkah, OMG Bakery gluten-free toast and pickled red onion.
Raw, organic and irresistibly tasty, Little Bird Kitchen creates hearty and healthy cuisine to kick start the day. Get your hands on a big bowl of motivation; the acai bowl is a powerful and flavourful combination of antioxidant-rich acai, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and bananas, topped with figs and ginger granola, seasonal fruits and coconut yoghurt.
Other mouth-watering options include chai spiced waffles, chickpea and kimchi pancakes, and kumara hotcakes. Little Bird Kitchen are experts at creating vegan delicacies that taste heavenly and leave you feeling good. There is nothing we love more than guilt-free goodies!
Our love for bagels is unrivalled, and Goodness Gracious are culinary magicians when it comes to the New York-inspired baked delight. Goodness Gracious quickly amassed a cult-like following for its extraordinarily delicious bagels. The vegan bagel pairs fresh and creamy avocado with juicy tomato, mushrooms, crisp rocket, Tabasco sauce, and tomato pesto. You can also opt to build your own bagel with fresh ingredients and seasonal goodies.
If for some crazy reason, bagels aren’t your thing (unlikely), Goodness Gracious also makes porridge with alternative milk, berry compote and almonds. There is also toasted muesli, basic bagels with fruity spreads and vegan chocolate cookies; for those of you with a sweet tooth.
K-Road is a foodie oasis; there is a restaurant fit for every meal and every craving. For brekkie, we stop by Bestie to get our hands on something divine; this spot is perfect for lowkey mornings and a quick pit stop before work. The cuisine is simple and homely with a focus on seasonal ingredients and local produce.
The menu showcases the best of the best with creamy mushrooms on toast, Bestie house-made cinnamon and vanilla muesli, and our personal favourite; the coconut and cardamom rice pudding. This beauty is paired with a tart feijoa curd, almonds, and coconut crumble.
Nestled in the heart of Highbrook is the industrial, chic, Woolfy’s café; specialising in inclusive cuisine, this eatery feeds the hungry. Woolfy’s vegan breakfast is packed with intense flavours and tastes divine; the plate is loaded with goodies like the tofu scramble, spiced sesame cauliflower wedges, grilled tomato, sautéed spinach, baby carrots and green beans with kale hummus.
Other options include the tropical no oat muesli bowl and the cult classic smashed avocado on toast. The latter pairs our beloved avo with Zahtar spice, carrot puree, asparagus and green beans on Freedom loaf.
