Pride Month in London
To celebrate Pride Month, we’ve put together an extra special bumper guide featuring LGBTQ+ owned and friendly businesses in London, including restaurants, bars and events where you can have fun and show your support to London’s LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month in June.
There’s plenty going on in Clapham during Pride Month, from street parties at The Two Brewers to dancing and DJs at The Clapham Grand. If you’re looking for somewhere nearby to fuel up or rest and recuperate a little, then the 1883 Restaurant is a laid-back spot beside Clapham Common, where you’ll find a terrace too — it’s just the spot to soak up some summer warmth with a cocktail in hand. Meanwhile, the menus offer everything from breakfast and brunch to lunch, dinner and small plates! There are even generous sharing platters for two (one is aimed at meat lovers and the other is curated for seafood fans), making this spot a real no-brainer when it comes to eating out in Clapham.
The French House has historically welcomed artists, writers, bohemians and all manner of open-minded folk into its watering hole on Dean Street, making it a legendary spot still today. Its upstairs restaurant is just as revered as its intimate bar, and even more cosy, so reserving a table is highly recommended, especially if you’re looking for a place to eat during any big Pride celebration. The handwritten menu changes each day, but you’re likely to find classic French fare made exquisitely — think oysters, scallops, cheeses, meats and frites! Its window tables also offer front row seats to any shenanigans going on down below…
Dalston Superstore is East London’s LGBTQIA+ mecca, so you can expect to find all kinds of raucous goings-on there throughout Pride Month. The celebrations will kick off with a Mighty Hoopla afterparty on 1st June, and you can get in the party mood by booking into one of the venue’s notorious drag brunches. These take place on Saturdays and Sundays, and are catered for by chef Troy Cundy. On the menu, you’ll find everything from a classic full English to an indulgent shaksuka, as well as saccharine French toast for those who prefer their brunch a little sweeter…
Bar Remo, like The MCR Restaurant and Bar, is a short distance from the Pride march and would be a great place to stop off for a bite to eat afterwards. It’s a family-run business that has been going for an impressive 90 years! Its menu is full of delicious Italian classic like pizza, pasta and meat selections. Some examples are the pollo pizza, spaghetti bolognese and grilled chicken breast with mixed salad.
This quirky spot on Great Windmill Street is in the same family as Murder Inc in Soho, so you can expect photo worthy interiors, creative cocktails and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. These guys love a celebration, from International Women’s Day to St Patrick’s Day, so keep your eyes peeled for any special Pride Month events and tipples! With large windows that let the light in, a lovely outdoor seating space, and refreshing concoctions including an oolong/strawberry fizz and a peach/dill fix, this is the ideal summer sanctuary.
There’s always something going on in Peckham’s Copeland Park, whether it’s an art exhibition, a flea market or a rave in Jumbi, so we have no doubt that there’ll be some sort of Pride celebrations this June. Whatever time of day you visit, you’ll be able to unwind at Social, where you’ll find a sprawling outdoor space. Mornings are all about coffee, then the cocktails start to come out as the day goes on; you might even be able to sip on a Pride-themed concoction! There’s always a tempting food pop-up in the kitchen, and you’ll find more gastronomic options at the nearby Eastern Bloc kiosk, where you can dig into Peckham-inspired Eastern European delights.
Tucked away on Berwick Street in Soho, this relaxed Spanish-style restaurant features large windows and counter seating, offering a front row seat to all the Pride action! The modern menu features exciting cocktails, including a Scottish negroni, as well as skin contact wines. Meanwhile, the food menu encourages diners to share a variety of dishes, and you’ll find classic tapas offerings — including croquetas and pan con tomate — alongside plenty of fish dishes, from lemon sole to grilled octopus.
On Homerton High Street you’ll find The Spread Eagle, one of East London’s oldest pubs. These guys keep tradition alive while celebrating the UK’s modern culture. Featured on the BBC, in the Guardian, Telegraph and Times newspapers, and the winner of many awards, The Spread Eagle is well known and loved for its fun and friendly vibe as well as being London’s first 100% vegan pub.
Pride Month should be filled with fun, community, dancing and all the colours of the rainbow, and you’ll find all of that and more in the LA and Australia-inspired brunch spot Starfish & Coffee; you’ll be spoilt for choice for places to snap your next Instagram story! It’s not only the decor that’s maximalist and colourful here, but the menu is too — think vibrant acai bowls and bright pink smoothies. After brunch, the venue becomes a disco paradise, with DJ sets and colourful cocktails galore!
