The sweet and salty combination of the fry and seasoning is a match made in heaven. Throw in a Kiwi-made dipping sauce and you’ve got yourself a winning side-dish. As popular as kumara fries are, few eateries dare to attempt to include them on their menu. Luckily we’ve tried them all, and we can assure you these are the best kumara fries in Auckland. Get snacking!
Starting off as a little stall at the Auckland Night Markets, Kai Eatery now has permanent spots on Rutland Street, in Commercial Bay and Takapuna so you can get your fix every day of the week. The Taiwanese joint has an extensive menu for such a small takeaway, with sub-sections from bowls to baos to their signature fried chicken. But, on the sides menu you’ll find their infamous kumara fries. Thick chunks of fluffy kumara fried in a crunchy batter and covered in special seasoning, Kai Eatery is the place to go for a sweet potato fix.
Aside from their phenomenal gourmet burgers, Burger Burger has also mastered the art of the side dish. From their chargrilled broccoli to fried chicken, they’ve worked out the perfect ratio and seasoning to compliment your main dish. Including their kumara fries, of course. Burger Burger serves them up simple: Crispy, with salt, and their homemade aioli for dippin’.
Leaders in healthy fast-food, the team at Food Truck Garage know how to make nutritious food taste pretty damn good. Additional to the menu of burgers, wraps, and superfood bowls, are the “bits on the sides”. Direct your attention to the kumara fries – served in their classic Kiwi fashion, with Himalayan salt and vegan garlic aioli, to make them not only delicious, but cruelty-friendly too!
The talked-about and sought-after dinner menu at Culprit makes it very hard to disappoint, especially with the precision and love that goes into each dish. Direct your gaze to the main dinner menu (if you can get past the rotating trolley service) and you’ll find Culprit’s signature hand-cut crinkle-cut golden kumara fries. Sourced from Pukekohe, the fries are grown close to home and served with parsley and Kiwi onion ranch.
Plant-based and piquant, Wise Boys Burgers have been pushing the vegan-movement for quite some time now. With several popular plant-based burgers on the menu, they’ve brought the same magic to the sides department too. Served in compostable packaging, their kumara fries are dusted with Wise Boy’s special seasoning and served with your choice of aioli, tomato sauce, or BBQ sauce (all cruelty-free of course!)
