Love is in the air, and Valentine’s Day is on the horizon; it’s time to prepare for the most romantic day of the year.
We’ve compiled a list of our favourite cheap and cheerful spots to help you out.
Make your Valentine’s Day memorable with big flavours, bright colours and a lively atmosphere; Kiss Kiss is a sure way to impress your S/O. The picnic benches, neon lights, and graffiti artwork come together to create an exciting and fun evening. Woo your loved one with dishes from the sharing menu or enjoy a solo dish from the noodles and rice section of the menu.
We strongly recommend starting with a mouth-watering bao bun; choose between three flavours, Thai-style pork belly, fried chicken or fried tofu. Share a selection of dishes like the deep-fried snapper, som tum salad and khao phat muu; the latter combines Thai-style fried rice with pork mince, egg, spring onion and satay sauce.
If you’re after cheap, cheerful, and undoubtedly delicious, then Dominion Road is unbeatable; with a vast selection of predominantly Asian cuisine, you can’t go wrong. One of our favourite spots, Love Exposure, is perfect for a romantic night out. Dine beneath the soft glow of neon lights and work your way through bao buns and authentic Asian street food made with fresh and organic ingredients.
The menu includes divine dishes like the Thai fusion red curry, coconut-crusted squid rings and the hawker roll; the latter pairs coconut jackfruit, vegan aioli, lettuce, shallots, pickled carrot and turnips. Share a drink with your partner, specifically the cocktail bucket with Aperol, cassis, peach liquor, ginger wine, pineapple juice and lemonade.
Goode Brothers never disappoints with hearty, carb-y, comfort food; the Kiwi-Italian gastropub has everything you could want or need. The lively restaurant is always a crowd-pleaser, with its welcoming ambience and irresistible menu. You’ll find burgers, seafood chowder, pizza, pasta and more.
The build your own pasta dish allows diners to personalise their dinner; choose the type of pasta you prefer (fettuccine, spaghetti, penne, gnocchi, and more,) then comes the sauce and proteins. Our favourite combination is the famous #6 with chicken, bacon, mushroom, onion and cream. Finish the night on a sweet note with the tiramisu chocolate torte.
Food is the way to our heart, and what says I love you, more than a big bowl of pasta? Cotto is a warm and welcoming eatery specialising in authentic Italian cuisine. The rustic interior and hearty fare make for a romantic and indulging evening. Share a selection of smaller dishes, like the saffron arancini with smoked mozzarella and ricotta pesto or the dumplings with spinach, goats’ cheese and sage.
Then, head over to the star of the show, pasta. Our personal favourite is the cannelloni with pork shoulder, peperonata and aged balsamic. The pasta is handmade, fresh in-house, every day by seasoned professionals – you couldn’t want for more. And the dessert section of the menu has us salivating at the delicious offerings, from affogato Nutella ice cream to mascarpone panna cotta with strawberry balsamic sorbet.
Asian fusion at its finest is hard to beat, and Chinoiserie is one of our favourite locations for this style of cuisine, focusing on Taiwanese street food. The gua bao buns are unbeatable; we dream about the Japanese karaage chicken with mayo, shredded cabbage, pickled ginger, Hanzo dressing and sesame.
Chinoiserie is a beautiful, laid-back eatery tucked away from the hustle and bustle; this is a great spot for a food-oriented night out. Grab an array of small dishes like buffalo hot-wings, bok choy, and prawn bites – experience all of the exciting flavours Chinoiserie has to offer.
