Is there any sweeter feeling than the one you get while tucking into a large cooked breakfast with a full bottle of prosecco at your elbow, your favourite people surrounding you, and all before midday? Didn’t think so… this ultimate Bristol brunch guide is dedicated to helping you and your mates find the perfect way to start your weekend day drinking in style.
At the Artist Residence you can relax in the library filled with cosy furniture and light and feel well cared for thanks to the friendly service. If you fancy a unique brunch experience, join the Yoga Brunch Club and start your Sunday morning right. Enjoy 75 minutes of energising yoga, then head to the kitchen for a nourishing vegetarian brunch with a choice of tea or coffee. Perfect place to unwind and celebrate a bit of ‘me time’.
Even though Flour and Ash is one of the most Instagram-worthy venues in the area, the philosophy here is to keep things as simple as possible. Indeed, it offers a great atmosphere with a quality service and straightforward menu, which is all you really need for a successful brunch. While bottomless brunch isn’t on offer, trying the tasty food should be enough to give you a buzz. You can enjoy one of the small plates (think courgette fritti or truffle parmesan fries) or go for the mains that include options such as pizzas or Agnolotti pasta. If you want to add a drink to the equation, no problem. The place offers plenty of tasty cocktails, alongside a hefty selection of wines and beers that will put you in a good mood.
If you can’t decide what kind of brunch would satisfy your needs, why not try something unique? Bocabar Paintworks combines it all; relaxing interior, art for sale, events that feature a DJ, occasional exhibitions and of course, delicious food. Bocabar Paintworks manage to pull off everything they do extremely well, attracting locals who want to have fun and take a break after a long day. The menu doesn’t disappoint either. You can enjoy breakfast treats and plenty of lunch specials; soup of the day, fish stew and burgers, to name a few.
Coppa Clifton is the definition of relaxing. While you’re waiting to be served, you can sink into one of the comfortable sofas and enjoy a modern, airy interior. The menu will appeal to everyone’s taste as it features a variety of European dishes that come as snacks, small plates or mains. If you’re more of a breakfast person, you can go for buckwheat pancakes covered with yoghurt, berries and granola seeds. For the main, we recommend you try a British steak or baked spiced aubergine. And if you’re one of those lucky people who work from home, you can combine duty with pleasure and enjoy their super-fast wifi. Don’t forget to top it all up with a glass of wine – you deserve a little break.
If boozy brunch is what you’re after, we don’t blame you. Life can be stressful and sometimes the only way to keep sane is by enjoying a little pleasure. Plus, there’s no better way to cure your hangover than with a wholesome meal and a bit of hair of the dog, right? You can start your day with tasty treats specially selected for you by the chefs and then choose from one of the mains (think feta and avocado with charred squash, guacamole, whipped feta, pomegranate and pumpkin seeds). Of course, all of this while enjoying unlimited Prosecco or Bloody Marys – Saturday brunch has never been this fun.
Farrington Park is the perfect destination if you fancy escaping the bustle of the city for a day or two. The award-winning golf course provides a stunning Somerset landscape and a relaxing atmosphere thanks to its remote location. It’s one of the best places to have brunch, too. For example, you can order a variety of dishes ranging from tasty nibbles such as cauliflower popcorn to filling mains like grilled chicken club salad with baby gem, boiled egg, avocado, tomato and crispy bacon. When the weather’s good, you might want to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine on the patio (or have a picnic on the grass) and take in the beautiful view at the same time. Apart from delicious food, the venue has plenty of facilities to make your weekend extra special, such as the gym where you can take fitness classes, and then unwind in the relaxation area. And if you enjoy golf, we really can’t think of a better place for a round than Farrington Park.
You don’t have to travel far for brunch that makes your day, The Metropolitan is located right in the heart of Clifton. Come and enjoy good food in a modern, vibrant space where the staff are always ready to help. With dishes designed to be shared, it’s an ideal choice for those who want to surprise their partners with something special. The menu is a straight-to-the-point mix of classics and some more unique options. We’ve enjoyed the eggs Benedict with smoked bacon, poached eggs and lemon hollandaise on toast, while another must-try is the Korean fried chicken with a peanut satay sauce, chilli mayo, house pickles, peanuts and coriander. You can pair this up nicely with a Bloody Kimchi cocktail. If you visit on a sunny day, don’t forget to check out the back garden, which is the perfect brunch setting.
For a centrally located, no fuss, high-quality brunch, the Quay Street Diner on (you guessed it) Quay Street has you covered. With loads of outdoor seating and a unique graffitied exterior, you can’t miss this little hipster haven filled with laid-back industrial charm. The hearty menu caters for the big breakfast and avocado on toast lovers, but also has dishes to tempt the less traditional brunchers, such as buttermilk fried chicken with waffles and maple syrup (no, YOU stop drooling). Brunch is served from 9am until 3pm on Saturdays and 9am until 5pm on Sundays, and you can easily add a boozy element to your meal with 90 minutes of bottomless prosecco or mimosas for an extra £15 per person.
Looking for a cosy and laid-back spot? Look no further. Duck & Willow is one of the friendliest pubs in Bristol as it features a children’s play area and a beer garden where you can relax and catch up with friends over a pint or simply enjoy food with your family. Everything on the menu is homecooked using ingredients from locally sourced suppliers where possible, and the delicious flavour reflects that. If you’re visiting during brunch time, we recommend you try one of the club sandwiches. For carnivores, there’s Mexican steak with spicy chimichurri, beer-braised onions and Monterey jack cheese or the Duck Club with chicken breast, bacon, tomato, pickled cucumber and lettuce. For those who don’t eat meat, there’s a sandwich with a tomato crumbled feta cheese, green pesto, shredded lettuce and pico de gallo salsa. All sandwiches are served with fries and citrus slaw and taste best paired with a pint. If you’re still feeling a little hungry after, take a look at the dessert menu; sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream and honeycomb is one we’d definitely recommend.
