High tea with a twist; delicious boozy options. All the class of a traditional high tea, mixed in with the fun of a few flutes of bubbles – here are the best places to have a boozy high tea in Auckland.
Debretts Kitchen hosts the ultimate Tipsy Tea, a roaring 20’s-inspired high tea event that leaves guests in awe. On Saturdays and Sundays from 12.30pm-4pm, Debretts hosts both the Tipsy Tea and the Roaring 20’s High Tea (both in costume.) Embrace the 1920’s theme and dress to impress, although if you’re lacking in the costume department, you can also buy a dress-up pack at the event that includes faux beads, feather boas and elaborate headbands. Be greeted with a bee’s knees cocktail; made with Tanqueray gin a splash on lemon and honey. The Tipsy Tea offers a trio of prohibition cocktails; bee’s knees, Mary Pickford and the strawberry rickey. The food selection includes; smoked salmon pinwheels, devilled eggs with crispy prosciutto as well as classic prawn cocktails with a melon salsa. Then you move on from the savoury into the sweet. The decadent sweets range from Jaffa mousse and Hokey Pokey tartlets to champagne knox dainties.
Indulge in an afternoon of sophistication, luxury, ocean views and champagne. Bellini Bar hosts their 2-hour high tea sessions Thursday-Sunday 11am-4pm. Choose between a large range of teas split into four sections; green, oolong, black tea and tisane or herbal tea. Pair the tea with the savoury options; parmesan shortbread, duck éclair with liver parfait. Then dive into the sweet section; white chocolate and passionfruit bon bon and honey madeleines with lemon curd. Add some sparkles to the day with NV Bollinger Special Cuvée Champagne or sip on a glass of rosé prosecco (NV Ca’ di Rajo). The bubbles go perfectly with the sweet treats!
Eden Gardens is the perfect location for a high tea; dine outside and be surrounded by the beautiful scenery, native fauna and the peaceful hum of birds. You’ll feel like a debutant/e in the countryside. Eden Gardens is also one of a kind, this high tea is BYO with $6 corkage. We suggest you bring a bottle of bubbles or fine white wine to fully capture the elegance of the event. Have your pick of tea from the vast selection, ranging from traditional English breakfast to peppermint, green and many more. Enjoy three tiers of savoury and sweet treats like; classic cheese scones, sundried tomato filo cups, mini lemon meringue pies and mango panacotta. End your visit with a stroll through the gardens.
Fisher House hosts their high tea everyday with multiple time options available, so you’ll never miss out. Choose between three levels of high tea; standard, royal or majestic. The two latter options come with a glass of sparkling wine. The royal is Wolf Blass Red Label CPN Sparkling and the majestic is Mumm Cordon Rouge NV. All three options come with an array of finger sandwiches, scones served with homemade jam and fresh cream and a selection of delicious sweet pastries and slices. With a grand lobby, winding staircase and beautiful land it will come as no surprise that even royalty has stopped in at Fisher House to partake in the frivolities. Cough, cough. The Queen Mother herself.
