Planning your next snow trip and want to know where to eat?
Whether you’re heading for Falls Creek, Mt Buller or Mt Hotham, you’ll find no shortage of winning restaurants in Victoria’s high country. Here’s a short list of our favourites…
One of the latest culinary additions to Falls Creek, modern and funky joint Bob Sugar serves up contemporary fusion food in style.
Opt for one of Bob’s classic poke plates with kimchi and tapioca prawns, or a bao burger with melt-in-your-mouth fried chicken. You’ll also find famed bacon and egg toasties, curry and vegan ramen bowls to please every kind of palate.
Nobody quite knows for sure who Bob Sugar is but one thing’s for certain – the guy knows how to put on a satisfying feed.

After a day of snow sports, there’s nothing like a mug of melted hot chocolate over spectacular mountain views.
Cloud 9 is a family favourite and renowned for its wood-fired pizzas, delicatessen meat roasts and comfort food dinners. Self-described as a “world-class on snow” food and beverage experience at the top of Halley’s Comet chairlift, the restaurant is open daily throughout the snow season.
Whether you’re up and at it early for a plate of breakfast waffles and barista-made Honeybird coffee or popping in late for a freshly mixed cocktail in the mezzanine bar, Cloud 9 is a welcoming après-ski break.

For an Austrian-style mountain bar experience with exceptional food to match, make a booking at Chamois in Mt Buller and get ahead of the crowds this year.
Located at Enzian Hotel, the popular restaurant sources a different master chef each snow season to serve up an impressive menu of contemporary Australian cuisine.
The vibe is casual and relaxed, idyllic for lounging with drinks after an active day out on the snow. From the à la carte menu you can expect to find a vast range of winter-warming favourites, from hearty scotch fillet steaks to fragrant bowls of Vietnamese pho.
And in the mornings, they do generous continental breakfast spreads for hotel guests – visitors welcome too. Don’t forget to check out the extensive wine list!

A long-time favourite of Mt Buller regulars, Kaptans at Pension Grimus hotel is recognised as one of the best restaurants in the village to taste traditional Austrian cuisine prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
Regional produce lovers, take your pick from the tender bobbie veal Wiener Schnitzel, Buxton trout, Hopkins River beef or Yarra Valley venison.
The traditional European alpine décor and famously warm hospitality make Kaptans the perfect spot to enjoy a hearty dinner after a day out on the slopes. But it’s the exceptional quality of the food here that really draws in the ski crowd.
Finish your meal with a selection of cheeses from the King Valley and Milawa regions or the restaurant’s signature soufflé dessert. Booking recommended – Kaptan’s is a top pick during snow season.
Dish Cult’s top pick: Chateaubriand eye fillet for two, bacon lardons, mushrooms, shallots, sauce bordelaise ($115)
If DJs, a lively dance floor and late-night bar sound like your cup of tea, then Jack Frost at Mt Hotham is your best bet to grab dinner. The bar’s open from 4pm daily so you can get settled in nice and early and order a signature cocktail.
By 5:30pm, the kitchen’s pumping out $1 chicken wings, parmas, hot curries, fish tacos and a wide selection of tasty dishes to suit fussy palates.
