Kol is conceived by Sid and Chand Sahrawat; the seasoned husband-and-wife duo and esteemed chefs who brought both Cassia and Sid at the French Cafe to life – Yet again giving Aucklanders another Indian fusion experience to remember by dappling a little more into the bar scene.

The menu is curated accordingly, consisting of Bites, Small Dishes, and Large Dishes, accomodating diners who just want a mouthful of flavour to complement their drink, all the way up to those large celebratory occasions.

Being pioneers of Indian haute cuisine in Auckland, Kol’s menu derives inspiration from the Chulha, a traditional Indian method of cooking constructed of clay.

Some key ‘Bites’ to keep your eye out for are the Vindaloo fries, and Te Makutu Oysters, which can be served natural, or coal roasted in ghee and green garlic butter.

Small plates include items such as the Ghost Chilli and Macadamia Oyster Mushrooms, and the Chicken Saffron Kebab served with burnt onion raita. Last but not least, among the Large Plates are Eastherbook Duck, Market Fish, and Stuffed Kulcha Bread.

The motto of this budding establishment is ‘fire, food and drinks’. Not only is this phrase reflected in their menu, but also their interior. The first observation that diners will notice is that, much like the Sahrawat’s other restaurants, Kol boasts some elaborate light fixtures. Despite the similarities, it has a noticeably different atmosphere in contrast to Cassia and Sid at the French Cafe. Notes of minimalism are also played through the seating arrangement and decorations (or lack thereof).

These are only some of the highlights of this new restaurant. Kol also has some transcendent desserts, a formidable cocktail menu, and qualified chefs. With so many tempting elements, who wouldn’t want to visit this up-and-coming Auckland staple?

Kol opens on Wednesday 2 November, open from 5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. From Friday to Sunday, they will operate from 12pm until late. Pre bookings are already available, so make sure to snag a spot!
