Nothing beats a night of fun at Glasgow’s Kings Theatre. Whether you’re going for a musical or a panto (oh no you’re not!), the gorgeous building with all its history really makes you feel like it’s a big night out. But to ensure you don’t spend a fortune at the intermission, you need to really fill up beforehand. I mean have you seen the price of a tub of Pringles? To help you out, we’ve put together a list of the best pre-theatre near Glasgow Kings Theatre. Now, let’s get this show on the road!
Sometimes a name tells you all you need to know, and this is one of them. Mini Grill is a tiny restaurant, famed for its steaks, and situated right across from the theatre. With two courses for just £19.95 before 5.30pm Monday-Thursday, it’s a perfect place to grab a bite before the show. And they don’t scrimp on the dishes either, with steaks, scallops, and their award-winning burgers all making the menu.
A good choice for a quick drink before heading to The Kings, The Griffin has a huge selection of gins for you to peruse. However, it’s not just drinks here, they also have a fantastic menu that always brings the house down. Although they don’t have a set pre-theatre menu, their food is really good value, with most mains coming in around the £9/£10 mark. We recommend their legendary chicken goujons: pick your crust, pick your dip, and choose a side to match, all for under a tenner. A showstopper!
If seafood is your bag, it really doesn’t get much better than Gamba. Established 20 years ago, these guys have been preparing some of the finest seafood in the city for long enough to be absolute experts. Their two course pre-theatre is just £22 between 5pm and 6.15pm and you can sample some really tasty fishy delights. For a restaurant with two AA rosettes, that’s a pretty decent deal!
Perfect for when you want your pre-theatre to be really near The Kings Theatre, Thairiffic is a tasty little Thai restaurant, less than a five minute walk away. Their pre-theatre menu is just £14.95 for two courses at the weekend (£13.95 through the week) and features classic Thai dishes like beef massaman curry, pad thai, and delicious spring rolls. With its colourful decor and friendly staff, it’s a great place to get the party atmosphere started.
Carrying on with the party atmosphere, we’re taking you to Tuk Tuk, the home of stunning murals, great drinks, and Indian street food. This fun Indian restaurant doesn’t have a set pre-theatre menu, but with great value dishes and plentiful portions, that doesn’t really matter. We’re massive fans of their street curries; tapas sized dishes that are perfect for eating yourself, or ordering a few as sharers. Best of all, it’s just a couple of high kicks along the road to the theatre.
If you’re looking for pre-theatre near Kings Theatre, this one is a little further away than the others, but it’ll still take you less than ten minutes to walk up from here. Choose three tapas dishes and a dessert or just £16.95 before 6.30pm Mon-Thursday, and dine on dishes like patatas bravas, gambas pil pil, and croquetas de jamon. With their bright decoration and lively Spanish music, this place will definitely get you in the mood for some chair dancing.
If you’re looking for pre-theatre near the Kings Theatre that’ll definitely fill a hole, Amarone is where it’s at. Located in a beautiful building just off Buchanan Street, this classic Italian restaurant has been feeding hungry Glaswegians for many a year. And you can enjoy two courses for just £14.95 on their pre-theatre menu, devouring pizzas, pastas, and risottos before treading the boards up to The Kings.
