Did someone say day drinking?
Summertime means day drinking. Not the type where you sit around feeling sorry for yourself, but the kind that involves soaking up some rays while enjoying a cocktail (or three) with your mates. That said, we decided to take one for the team and scout out Auckland’s top day drinking spots.
Located along the harbour, The Good Luck Coconut is an epic place to get into that summertime spirit. As you gaze out to the water, sipping on your Pineapple Daiquiri, bobbing along to some tropical beats, you may begin to think you’ve been whisked away to the tropics! Top tip: These guys often have happy hour deals, so keep an eye on their socials.
Bottomless brunch anyone? Although this, unfortunately, doesn’t involve endless pancakes, it does mean bottomless mimosas, prosecco, and bloody mary. Accompanied by your choice of brunch item, we simply can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday morning than at The Lula Inn. If an egg bene and alcohol combo isn’t for you, skip the brunch and go straight to their classic drink menu – filled with numerous cocktails, gin, wines, and beers.
Since 2011, Deep Creek Brews and Eats has been a popular Browns Bay hot spot. As the team brews their own craft beer, you can understand why locals can’t get enough! From pilsner to pale ale to Indian brown ale, they offer unique Kiwi tastes made with loads of passion. Located near the beach, you’ll get to spend your day testing out some novel flavours while enjoying the fresh air.
Try before you buy, right? That’s why Hallertau’s beer tasting paddle seems like the most practical way to begin your outing. Instead of going straight for a full glass, being able to pick four flavours, will let you declare your favourite with confidence. And since we’re being logical here, it only seems right to add a wood-fired pizza to your order – wouldn’t want to drink on an empty stomach!
With picture-perfect views and award-winning wine, what’s not to love about Cable Bay Vineyard? So, why not get the guys and gals together and taste the hand-crafted magic for yourself! Don’t worry if wine isn’t your thing; You can still enjoy a scenic drink, with a range of cocktails, beer, and non-alcoholic options on offer. Their tapas-style dining is also a must!
Take a modern Mexican escape to Marina Cantina. This trendy restaurant is decked out with vibrant tables, murals, and loads of colour, making it an ultimate summertime drinking spot. When it comes to their menu, you can count on them to know a thing or two about margaritas.
From a Frozen Mandarin and Passionfruit Margarita to a Black Doris Plum Margarita, these creations are far from boring. Other popular choices include their Pink Passion Colada or incredible Sangria. With this in mind, you may want to head there at 12pm on the dot, so you have plenty of time to make your way through the beverage list.
You’ll soon be feeling like you’re on a Spanish getaway as you sip your wine at Casita Miro. Whether you fancy sitting inside their picturesque restaurant or want to relax out in the sun, their array of seating and beanbags makes it an ideal location for a special occasion or a laid-back day with friends.
With endless wine to pick from, the luxury of choice continues. If you’re battling to decide their sangria is unbeatable! Our personal favourite is their White Sangria made with passionfruit, white wine, soda, and fruits – Delicious!
Go back in time with a day trip to New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern. Running for over 150 years, you can expect to get a glimpse of history at the Riverhead Tavern. Spoilt with outdoor seating options and scenic views, you’re best to visit this spot when the rain promises to stay away. On their beverage list, there’s a range of cocktails, wine, beer, liqueurs, and spirits. We’ll take a round of Riverhead Cosmo’s, please!
Situated minutes away from the beach, Long Bay Surf Club is a summer dream. The relaxed, lively atmosphere makes it an excellent spot for a drink and some nibbles. Beer, cider, wine, they’ve got it! Not to mention their cocktail list is long enough to be separated into three categories; classics, twisted, and Long Bay originals.
At first glimpse, the Pineapple Margarita and the Mai Tai have certainly taken our eye! Oh, and if you’re after food, the smoked bourbon pork ribs are to die for. These bad boys are drenched in a divine coffee barbeque glaze, which makes them finger-licking good!
