Spotlight on Signature in London

Take a culinary journey from East to West in a single evening (or lunchtime, or afternoon), at Signature. Once inside this venue, you’ll feel like you’ve arrived somewhere in between a Japanese flower garden and the Brazilian jungle — with an eclectic menu to match these surroundings. Revolving around steak and sushi, but with a strong Latin influence, the menu is surprising and the dining experience is sensory.

A Signature concept

Inspired by the concept, everything here is Signature; the food, the lovingly crafted cocktails, the hospitality approach, and the style. As a result, it’s all very unique. Seasonal dishes are created using a curated range of premium ingredients sourced from select suppliers. And the team is passionate about delivering top notch customer service, so you have a great time, eating great food.

Buranchi

You can brunch all day and brunch all night at Signature. But this is brunch with a difference; Buranchi, if you will. You get to pick a main or sushi dish and a side dish, receive complimentary Buranch cocktails for an hour and a half (as well as prosecco, beer, wine and soft drinks), from £30 per person.

Bites

Those with a lighter appetite (or who are still hungry post-brunch) can try some lighter bites, like quirky sushi combinations, including pulled beef short rib uramaki, shimeki mushroom maki and sweet potato uramaki. Sample an eclectic mix of croquettes, gyozas, kimchi, Japanese cucumbers in spicy sauce, tiger prawns chipotle and brocolis grelhado. Then for pud, go for some traditional Japanese steamed bao buns filled with rich custard.

Big plates

Or dine a la carte, with a main from the menu. Steak is a big deal here. The restaurant uses higher welfare Argentine beef from Hereford and Angus cattle that have been reared on the Pampus Plains — savour the mouthwatering flavour and texture of a chateaubriand, or a ribeye, slathered in sauce and all to yourself.

If you prefer plant-based dishes, opt for something like a panko-breaded pumpkin katsu curry with steamed rice or a veggie yaki soba. Then on Sundays, you have the option to tuck into a hearty roast dinner, with your choice of steak, chicken, pork belly or a nut roast served with homemade roast potatoes and vegetables for £15 per person (add £20 per person for 90 minutes of bottomless beverages).

Signature cocktails

What’s your poison? Perhaps the Peruvian flavours of a Pisco Sour (pisco, egg white, lemon juice and sugar); or aTokyo Iced Tea (Midori, Havana 3 Year Rum, Bombay Sapphire Gin and Stolichnaya Vodka with citrus and lemonade); a Maracuya Congelado (frozen passionfruit, coconut cream, fresh lime, Passoa and passionfruit puree; or Signature’s take on a Jungle Bird Rum Punch (fresh lime, pineapple juice, spiced rum, Campari and demerara syrup). You can sip on them all — or more likely, several — here.

Passion, creativity and warmth

The dining room and bar area has a sassy, seductive and sophisticated feel, with comfy velvet upholstered seating, dark wood tables, bold wall patterns and lots of wisteria. This last element takes a cue from Japanese Kabuki theatre, where the flower symbolises passion, creativity and warmth — all values integral to Signature.

Live performances and music

The Saturday and Sunday Brunch – The Steak & Sushi Experience is accompanied by the sounds of a live DJ. Resident DJs play here every Friday and Saturday nights too, and you’ll often see vocalists, instrumentalists and other performers on the lineup (keep an eye on the website or social media for details of upcoming acts). Once you’ve finished your meal and drinks on the first floor, you can extend your night by dancing and drinking into the small hours — just head downstairs to the restaurant’s sister site; Pure Lounge Club.

Signature is found on Bexleyheath’s Broadway and open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 10pm, on Fridays from 5pm to 11pm, on Saturdays from 2pm to midnight and on Sundays from 2pm to 11pm. And as it’s for over 18s only, it’s a great choice for a date night, as well as for parents wanting some adult-only time to catch up with friends away from their kids (or anyone else’s for that matter).
